Alert Settings Garmin

Custom POI alerts oftentimes confuse folks regarding the lack of an alert even though they have a custom distance alert set for a pretty large value. Here's the FAQ by member jgermann and pay particular attention to the section entitled "Along the road alerts:"

There are two fixes to your problem:

1) the maintainer of the POI file (or the user of the file) needs to reset each location's lat/long so that rather than being the actual building (which may be outside "30-meter" window) to the driveway or exit ramp from the roadway to the POI location itself. With POI files with hundreds or thousands of locations, this will be a daunting task.

2) the other alternative is to change the custom POI from a standard file to a TourGuide file. The easy part is that it just requires a change in the filename of the csv or gpx file. Where it can be a problem is that a TourGuide custom POI MUST have a custom audio alert, generally now a wav file, for the alert to work.

Once you have TourGuide alerts set, be aware that setting too large an alert distance will cause false positive alerts from roadways within the alert radius but not on your route; e.g., alerts caused from POI locations on roadways parallel to your route, etc.

I set up the alerts as a tour guide and it worked great Thanks for the information.It makes me wonder if there are any other hidden options for Garmin do you know if POI is the only item that can be loaded to extras?
