Update nuvi 2xx7 and 2xx8 software version 5.50

I have a friend that has a 2597LMT, I'll let him know about the update. If I don't keep him informed, he never keeps up with updates and must be reminded as well to update his maps.

Updated my 2598. There was also a Nuvi 24x7 and 25x7 Language Text update (improved translations) as well for my 2598.

I always forget to update. I use my work computer and have to remember to bring in my Nuvi from the car and bring the right cord. Just uploaded now but my Nuvi drive is almost full. Not sure what I can delete.

Very fast update, all seems to be working OK.

I frequently Save locations by picking a point on a road... various reasons related to my job. An address pops up, I hit Save and then it prompts me for a Name. Anyways, recently the "Save" button is grayed out and I can't even get to the point of giving the Saved location a name. Other times it works. I see no consistent pattern. Any ideas? Bug or error on my part?

Internal Storage says 7.05GB, 2.27GB free. 15GB SD card says 14.9GB free (guess its not needed)

Make sure you are tapping the Icon on the screen. Missing the I con could be causing this.

How many saved places do you think you have? You may have reached the limit Garmin allows for your unit's Saved Places.

You are allowed 1000 saved places for your model per Garmin.

Craig, based on my Current file I believe there are 378 Saved favorites.

Phranc, the Save button is actually grayed out, non-selectable. At times. Not all the time. That's the weird thing.

Some of my favorites show up on my map as a little green heart. Some don't. The ones which do seem to have an additional Category (in addition to mine), called "Address". The address category isn't among my options however when I am adding categories. I would love to see all my Saved favorites show an icon on my map. Can't seem to make it happen. Frustrating me quite a bit :-/

Thanks Charles, didn't know about that. At 378 (I believe), it has only (seemingly randomly) stopped me from saving new ones.

My Layer options are only: Places Along The Road / Traffic / Trip Log, all enabled. Maybe in motion some Favorite icons will show. I can enter an active route, hit Go, doesn't seem to effect which Saved favorites icons are displayed and which aren't. Also favorite category doesn't seem to matter.

What I was asking was, are you tapping exactly on the vehicle icon on the screen when you are trying to save a place. I don't have my GPS handy, but I believe that if you don't tap exactly on the vehicle icon, you won't get a Save dialog.

Ensure you're tapping on a road. Tapping on a blank part of the map won't work.

If there's still an issue try a screen calibration and if that doesn't help then since you've updated your software try a master reset.

I usually am selecting elsewhere on a map, just to add a "Note" or location I need to be aware of in the future. On a road. Sometimes a bridge location with weight restrictions. An address will pop up, indicating it recognizes the location, but the Save button will be grayed out. This is with an updated software version on my 2557LMT. I don't recall having the problem prior to the update.

As for another problem I had posted recently about these Favorites, I found out this week that it does display them all but I seem to need to be within some proximity of them. Not real useful if I am at home trying to plan a route and they aren't displaying as I browse the map :-/ I was looking for a way to force display of all my Favorites icons. I guess the only way might be to drop them into a POI file and then I could have an associated icon. The POI icons seem to always display despite proximity.

that's quite right, if you don't select the vehicle icon, you cannot save the location you select. As to the saved items, the units will only select the 50 nearest icons. You can start typing in the search box and get suggestions on what you are looking for.

Or, you can connect your GPS to your computer and download your favorites to Base Camp and either create your route on BaseCamp, or at least have a fun lost of your favorites to choose from.

On my 2557 I never (ever) pick the vehicle icon to save favorites. Its always elsewhere, a place I plan on going to. Most of the time it works. Occasionally the Save button is grayed out and it won't save.

I think I stumbled upon the issue/solution I was having with the grayed out Save button for favorites. It just happened to me at my desk I had tried to save two in a row and the second causes the problem. After I save one, I need to hit the Back arrow before selecting any additional location to Save. So perhaps this is what was going on, not a random problem like I previously thought it was.
