Before you Rush

Before anyone trying to update to IOS 11.0.1 a few thing you may like to know.

Taking pictures and video..

This new update have a lot of improvement on picture and video.

The IOS 11.0.1. Does not use JPEG it as a new format called HEIF= High-Efficiency-Image- the quality from the normal 16 million ,will jump to 1 billion also the size of the pictures will be reduce, if a Jpeg picture was 1.5 MB, now will be only 690 kb.(about 50% reduction).

OLd pictures on your phone before update still will remain in Jpeg format..Only new pictures will be in HEIF format..

Video will not be effectet Only the size will be reduce in Mb..

Now here is the sad part ..Android and Microsoft does not support HEIF at this time. If you try to view a picture HEIF on window 10 and some other device the picture will not show. on your pc.

MAC user should have no problem.

It maybe an option on this new IOS update to disable this new HEIF format features

I read something about this online about a week ago I am trying to find it again..as soon I do find it again I will post the link here. for all to read.

Please do some research before do the update. I would not want someone to be disappointed..

I took a photo, let Photos

I took a photo, let Photos pick the picture up from the phone. Exported it to the Desktop and it exported as a .jpg. shared the photo from Photos to a text message. A .jpg was sent.

I don't think there is going to be a problem with the new format.

New .heic file format for photos

Unless you have an iPhone 7 or later (or a 2017 model iPad) you needn't worry about HEIF. Only iOS devices with an A10 chip or higher support the new HEIF format (.heic instead of jpg).

There is a Formats option in Settings, Camera. If set to Most Compatible it will use JPEG for photos and H.264 for video.

Also, there is a Transfer to Mac or PC option in Settings, Photos. If set to Automatic , photos will transfer to your computer as .JPG instead of .heic.

At the moment, some users are having issues using Automatic with Lightroom importing.

Wife's Iphone 6 16GB....
I asked her if she's noticed any change in speed, and battery useage... She says no... nothing unusual....

I did so after going to AppCenter, and clicking on 1 of 5 Apps needing update, and it responded by updating all of them.... Which wasn't expected, though was my original intention of what to do...... Though I don't believe "Mind Reading" was part of the recent updates!!! smile!

Keep in mind that with any new iOS update, it may need a few days to complete tasks and run efficiently so one can't necessarily accurately judge battery life and performance right off the bat. This is because the system optimizes the hard drive by indexing data which of course has an impact on the battery. Keep a charger nearby just in case during the first week but after that things should simmer down.

On an iPhone, users might

On an iPhone, users might instinctively swipe up to open Control Center and toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off from the quick settings. Each icon switches from blue to gray, leading a user to reasonably believe they have been turned off—in other words, fully disabled. In iOS 10, that was true. However, in iOS 11, the same setting change no longer actually turns Wi-Fi or Bluetooth "off."

Is that true?

As a fringe benefit

As a fringe benefit, several of the apps on my iPad have issued improvements that take advantage of iOS 11.
