Eclipse results

Well, my driveway was only going to give me a 70%-ish coverage of the eclipse, and that percentage matched the roughly 70% cloud cover today. My best view was supposed to be at around 10:30 but the sun was behind a cloud from 15 minutes before the peak to 15 minutes after its max.

My neighbor and I did see the eclipse before and after the peak through my 2012 Transit of Venus glasses. Even with the clouds, northern AZ did not seem especially dark at any time so I'm sure the wild animals, livestock and pets did not get confused.

Not all in AZ were interested in viewing the event:

My Denver-area brother drove to western Nebraska for 100% coverage of the sun and I await his review later today.

So how was your experience today?

Funny thing

What makes me smile is how times had changed. 3000 year ago all people will be down on their faces begging priests to reverse effects of god's anger. Now they all complaining that eclipse was not clearly visible from their home or required long travel to be seen smile

Some thing do change after all smile

Had a doctor appointment

Had a 10:00 AM doctor appointment - prime time here for over 80% eclipse. When I parked in the lot there were a couple of doctors from other offices in the parking lot with glasses and one of them asked if I wanted to look. VERY cool. grin

Understanding makes it

Understanding makes it interesting. I had the opportunity to look at the sun through a sun telescope. You could actually see the magnetic rings flinging plasma. Got to appreciate just how violent the sun is yet keeps on ticking.

Vacation in Colorado

Visit son near Denver, 92% eclipse. I had small telescope, so view was fantastic.

San Diego

I saw it in San Diego through a friend's special "eclipse glasses". They looked like the cheap 3D movie glasses with a cardboard frame. However, they worked and I got a nice view. I don't recall the percentage, but it looked to be about 3 quarters. We had a few high clouds, but it was still easy to see the eclipse.

Went to Nebraska

I used my 3597 to go from Denver to Stapleton, Nebraska in my rental car to see totality. The GPS worked flawlessly and even updated with the traffic issues. The eclipse itself was literally awesome and well worth the time, money, and effort. I look forward to doing it again in 2014.

It'd certainly be interesting to see how well the traffic providers handled the absolutely crazy traffic and ETA times.

I think...

...you meant 2024. (Unless you are going to do some time travel to the past.) wink

There's an app for the next eclipse.

At this exact moment it is 2399 days, 00 hours,25 minutes, and 53 secs to the eclipse in 2024.

Wonderful!

My wife and I traveled over 2700 miles round trip to see totality. We drove from Tucson to just southeast of Casper, WY and camped out in a National Forest with my nephew and his family. My Garmin 2595 performed flawlessly during the entire trip. I always spend a lot of time on this site downloading POIs and updating my GPS before road trips. I really enjoy that I over plan the trip so dealing with nearly any navigational need, desire or contingency can be dealt with by just a few clicks!
