Don't rush to install Windows 10 Creators Update

These aren't my words. Someone else said / wrote this so if you want to argue, argue with them!

For the first four months of a Win10 version's initial release, users are actually working as unpaid beta testers for Microsoft on the not-yet-stable version

Microsoft says it will begin pushing out the Windows 10 Creators Update, aka version 1703, on Tuesday, April 11, to anyone who has not disabled updates. Windows Insider beta testers on the Fast Ring have had the near-final version, build 10563, since March 23, and if you know where to look (Microsoft’s Update Assistant page or, if you are registered, from the Microsoft Developers Network), you can download Windows 10 Creators Update right now.

Don’t do it.

rolleyes

As a disclaimer, I am a Windows Insider, although I do not have any of my devices running an Insider build. I haven't had any issues with the Creator's Update, and have updated three of my devices so far, with a plan to do a fourth either tonight or this weekend. The other two computers in the household that I do not own or use can get the CU on April 11th.

While caution in performing an update is recommended, the InfoWorld article preys upon people's fears, which gets in the way of the message it's trying to convey, which is "be patient, and be cautious".

erring toward overstatement

While I have no love for Microsoft, I think there is a pretty consistent tendency for public discussion to overstate the significance of user problems with their software updates and to understate the benefits.

A year ago I my home systems were all Windows 7. Now all save one are Windows 10, two by successful conversion, one a new build by my own hand, and one a newly purchased laptop. By and large Windows 10 has done well by me.

The large print features of the Creators Update don't obviously offer me anything I want, but I don't plan to drag my feet unless I see far more compelling problems than I expect.

I could not be any more pleased with Windows 10. It is far superior to the previous versions.

Creators update

Been running it as insider on 2 of many pcs laying round the house, including this one,
it was really bad in October
the rtm is stable, vastly increased utility,
linux, BeOS, 4 other OS in windows

I have retired an M24 and sparcstation after 17 years,
I can do maintenance of those remote systems from my W10 laptop
and I have linux playtime

however, if not using it for development, delay as long as possible, some settings patches to finish

On a counter point, The other day I updated my desktop and laptop with no issues. They are both now running the creators build.
