New map 2018.1O disapointments

There are still many "Road ahead" notices that skip over the next road (or several). Some improvements though.. one main road in my area is now properly identified as "next" where in the previous version it was skipped. This version skips over one of the main intersections in Edmonton (did in last version as well). Or.. it shows the next road as the same one you are currently driving on..

And.. I am disappointed that the new map still has not included Edmonton Ab school zones..

The map does seem to be crisper...

What part of Edmonton

What part of Edmonton was this in? Yeah, I also would like to see school zones but I don't see it coming anytime soon. Maps are also slow to update in Canada. In my area, it still shows me driving in a field. The area has been developed for almost 2 years.

Skipped road ahead

23rd Ave is particularly bad from 34 St to at least Calgary Trail. The "major" road ahead it misses is driving West along the Anthony Henday at the Gateway interchange. Shows the next exit as 111 completely skipping over the exit to Edmonton or South on Calgary Trail.

I'll test it

My wife works at the Grey Nuns Hospital and I have to go to Costco on 91st. I'll check it out this afternoon. I usually drive down 23rd ave to get there. I'll return home on the Henday and see what happens on my 1390T. Missing the major exchange at Calgary Trail how is that even possible? It's been there for a long time.

distance?

How close are those skipped roads from each other? Maybe they are too close for gps to have time to identify them on time?

Distance

Distance between the Calgary Trail interchange and 111st exit is probably around 4kms or 2.5 miles on the Henday. 23rd Ave goes the same directions and has both exchanges and exits at these locations (actually an intersection at 111st). No excuse.

Where is this at?

Where is this at? I can probably add it on the map for HERE.

Missing or skipped roads ahead notification bar

For what little it is worth...
Missing roads ahead while driving West on 23 Ave from 38 St in Edmonton Ab : Does not show MillWood Rd East; 94 St; Parsons Rd; 98 St; 99 St; and Saddleback Rd. On the return trip driving East it missed showing , 110 St; 105 St; Calgary Trail South and Calgary Trail North (missed the whole interchange); 101 St 99 St; Parsons Rd; 91 St (shows only within the last 100 meters) and Millwoods Rd East.

Driving South on 111 St it does not show 23 Ave until you pull into the left turn lane to turn on to 23.

The display typically shows one (sometimes two) roads ahead but also shows "Driving on Road" or.. driving on the same road that displays at the bottom.. the very one you are on. The roads do show names on the actual map.

The latest map update did improve the situation though.. there were a lot more roads skipped in the previous version

If you are on routing, cross

If you are following a route, cross streets won't appear in the info bar, only your next turn. Also, while routing, the bottom will only show the road you are on. Is this what you are seeing?

Not on a route, next intersections skipped

The bottom shows the street I am driving on.. and the info bar at the top "should" show the next intersection. Frequently in some areas the top info bar skips over one or several showing a street that is way off in the future. Or.. the info bar shows the street I am currently on.. Or.. occasionally says "driving on road"
Some pretty major intersections are skipped over.. ones that have been there a long time. And.. it also seems to vary depending on which way I am traveling.. going West the intersection shows.. but not while travelling East..

my guess ....

is that this is the behavior (or failure if you wish to call it that) of the Garmin navigation logic that displays the next street, and not an error in the map data. If that is the case, it will probably not be corrected with a map update.

I've noticed something similar to this before, in my case the pattern seems to be when a street does not cross, only comes in from the left. Roads that do not cross that come in from the right do appear.

In other words, the only street names that will pop up, that are not cross streets, are on the same side of the road I am traveling, (USA).

I have observed the skipping-next-road for ages on my several Nuvis and map updates. This happens ONLY when I am cruising (not on a route) along the controlled-access highways.

The notification on the top bar will usually showing "Driving on ..." until it get close to 1 mile or two within some exits. It typically skips some major exits, especially ones with long frontage roads and another freeway. I agree with Alan that this is an idiosyncrasy of Garmin's navigation logic. The road-skipping behavior does not seem to affect routing in any case .
