Garmin Express 5.1.1 for PC

While running the version previous to this, I added a new device - a nuvi 3597. GE detected it and displayed a Marine GPS. A popup advised me to purchase marine charts. After restarting GE it came to its senses and detected the 3597.

Thanks....I think I will wait on this one unless there are new maps released.

Installed with no problem on my old Vista 64 laptop, but I realize one of these days it will be the end of the road for that OS.

Wow. Not for the 5.1.1 but for its Release Notes coming out nearly simultaneously with the update.

I went to download, and it had updated itself already.

Do you have GE running in the background?
I don't but I have it to update automatically.
I am assuming that I have to have it running in the background for it to update automatically.

GE updated itself again without my permission. It seems I have no control of GE updates.

Well I thought I had disabled GE from running in background but when I checked it had updated by itself.
Every time I open GE it automatically puts itself in startup mode no way to stop it.

There have been so many issues with this program - wonder when it will be good again... sigh...

The early versions of Garmin Express were pretty bad, but the past couple of years I have found it to be quite reliable. I no longer use Webupdater or Mapupdater.

No check mark beside always keep running in the background, nor automatically launch when a Garmin device is connected, on schedule I put never along with off for the proxy

I noticed that the GE icon on the desktop had "moved". It was now on the bottom with an vacant spot where it normally was. Knew right away that it had been automatically updated and this thread proved me right.

Agreed. While there are often updates the vast majority of these are to do with fitness devices as Garmin introduce many more of them.

But Garmin updates itself anyway.

Has anyone had issues downloading GE 5.1.1?

When I launch GE, I get a prompt that 5.1.1.0 is ready to install. When I click OK, I get an error "Unsupported 16-bit Application" Basically an error saying its not compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows.

I went to Garmin's website to manually download GE. I get all the way to "Your download should begin automatically. If it doesn't, you can restart the download. Then Firefox gives the error below as does Chrome. The only option is to "Go Back" and I can't download GE.

The owner of download.garmin.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.

I just downloaded it and it upgraded just fine on my work pc.

Me too ..... Microsoft Edge integrates well ......
