Well ...

Partly to cope with the myriad of new fitness devices being released, partly due to the fact NPAPI plug ins are slowly being removed by different web browsers due to security concerns, meaning Garmins Communicator plug in is becoming obsolete.

Confirmation of brower plug-in NPAPI obsolesence

I can confirm this, as I recently tried administrating a Garmin nuvi for a friend of mine using Firefox 64-bit. Definitely a no-go, even with a 64-bit Communicator plug-in.

ChefDon

And it installed from

And it installed from V4.4.0.0 without a hitch!!!

Note here that as long as I've been using GE, I've been using Firefox... Never had a loading issue with Firefox prior to V4.4.0.0..... and this update from within the program worked fine, so it's kind of obvious where to lay blame......

Also note that Garmin Support sent email with link like Alanb's post... and I gave her a link to the 4.4.0.0 issue thread here at POI FACTORY saying that their 'fix' had already been determined and credit should be given to folks at that thread... and then asked if I had removed the updater file in the /TEMP directory, would it have then worked.... ?????

I never received an answer to my email................. !!!!

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

Garmin support.

It is interesting that the Garmin Express team never made a comment about this issue in the thread on their own discussion forum. After I posted the solution over there, they simply closed the thread so no one else could comment. smile

SD card support for zumo 550

dave817 wrote:

As the zumo 550 is a 2007 model, if Garmin Express doesn't directly support map updates to the SD card by now, I doubt if it ever will. If you want to install maps to SD, you will need to use one of the manual methods.

Smooth as ice

No issue, hopefully it's a good bug-free build (unlike the Garmin units themselves which are usually reliable but still have bugs and crash periodically).

Taking me a bit..

Starting to get used to the new update.

Why?

Why is there still a Vehicles and Voices button in the latest release? When pressed it says "Feature not available?

probably. ..

... because that was easier to implement.

Little bug with the update

I noticed that if you use GE and download an update like Samantha's voice, and then you update GE, GE does not know you have already updated Samantha's voice. Not something that causes any problems, but it is interesting to note.

I took GE 4.4 and updated Samantha's voice. GE 4.4 said I was up to date. I then ran GE update to update GE to GE 4.5. GE 4.5 checked for updates and said I had a Samantha Voice update. Small bug. Does not cause any ill effects.

Not sure what "downloadable content delivery" is, but that's anywho.

Garmin Drive Smart 61 NA LMT-S

Maps?

@Garmin Gal ... It may have something to do with added maps (like purchasing the Europe map for a NA device). In the past, this downloadable content used its own installer, but now I think it is handled by Garmin Express. It could also have something to do with the "world traveler" devices being offered in Europe and Asia, but so far not in North America. These devices can download the City Navigator maps for most parts of the world and all of the maps have lifetime updates.

sussamb probably has a more authoritative answer, so maybe he will clarify for us what "added support for Garmin downloadable content delivery" is referring to.
