Yes, it increased safety and made money

The 29 sites in East Riding are listed at the bottom of the report. The article indicated that 2 sites had an increase in casualties when comparing a 1999-2002 period with a 2012-2015 period. These two sites were specifically discussed as to the increased, while 2 other sites were commented on for other reasons.

Numbers...

It's really tough to tell whether safety was improved or not. I doubt it, but they can pick whatever numbers they want. I still think the cameras need to be banned everywhere.

RLC's

RLC's are only a moneymaker as long as certain drivers either ignore YELLOW lights or run red lights. I don't do either.

safety

imho overall, safety is increased, but not always. The not always is due to drivers' actions. For example, I noted a trick I saw, which is to go onto the other side of the double yellow, and blow the intersection. That is dangerous. But is it the RLCs' fault? Some may say, if the RLC were not there, the driver would have blown the intersection on the correct side of the double yellow, which is safer.

Yesterday, I was at an intersection (Girard & Lancaster) where 10 cars blew the light, 2x5. I thought to myself, a) I wish I had a dash cam b) I wish there were a rlc here. Yes, maybe 5/10 of those vehicles are actually unregistered and uninsured, but the other 5 would receive summonses...

Wow where do you live when you estimate that 50% of vehicles/drivers are either unregistered or uninsured?

I think ...

.... the suggestion was that half of those who run red lights are uninsured, not that half of all drivers are uninsured. Certainly here in the UK often it's the ones who aren't insured are the ones that tend to commit road traffic offences.

This is why I am on LE's side, and can only imagine how difficult their jobs are, especially when multiple officers have been shot nearby. (Girard & Lancaster)
