New Garmin Voice Update 2.30

Garmin just released Samantha voice version 2.30. The only thing that I can find is they have changed Pronunciation Improvements.

Update

I had both Samantha and Jack installed on the Nuvi 2597 and it offered the update for both on Webupdater.

Note.On the last update some users didn't get the option to update other voices on their device. May have been a Garmin Express issue at that time. Used Webupdater myself at that time and got same options as above.

Thanks

Yes, Jack and Samantha updated to 2.30 on 6/29/2016 with pronunciation improvements. Time to update the faq! Done. Here's the latest for English language voices:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42708

The most recent previous English language updates to TTS3 voices occurred way back on 9/29/2014. I wouldn't be surprised to hear of more soon since German Anna was also recently updated:

New Garmin Voice Update 2.30

Thanks for the heads up.

I'll do an update on my units as soon as I get the chance.

GE - No update / WebUpdater - Update

Garmin Express, even with the nuvi connected, selected and manually refreshed did not offer either voice update to my existing Samantha and Jack on the nuvi. WebUpdater did offer both. Is it that GE hasn't yet been 'notified' of the new voice updates or do we again have a GE software bug? If you experience the same issue, you will need to run WebUpdater (and install it, if needed):

Downloaded. Still prefer Karen though.

Testing Sam

I'm testing the new Samantha on a simulated route right now...can't do a real drive since I have a new hip and can't drive yet. Since my nuvi is named Karen and voice command is awakened with "Hey Karen," I'll go back to K soon too. wink

For sydric and all others updating: Let us know if Garmin Express offered these updates for you or if you had to use WebUpdater. Thanks.

Could you be imagining this?

There is no new Jill voice update that I know of and making matters worse, I'm assuming the Drive 60 voices are the stock TTS3 voices meaning that there is no Jill available, even as a manual download/install. Can you check and see what voice you are using? I expect it may be Samantha.

Could you check your Drive 60 and tell us what voices your device has—and to be really helpful, which speak street names (or maybe say "Uses Real Directions," which use Real Voice, and the versions for each voice?

If the new Drive models use a new voice format, voice engine, and different stock and additional voices from what we have in the Voice FAQ, then I need to update the FAQ.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I'm hearing voices, OH NO !

Nuvi 855 = Jill
Nuvi 3790 = Jill
Nuvi 2797 = Samantha

You may want to check in the settings and verify the what the defult voice is. See https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?... Samantha has Both Garmin Real Directions & Garmin Real Voice.

Express gave me the Samantha voice update for my Nuvi And my wife's.
The two voices my 57LM has is Samantha or Michelle.
I don't have Jill any more. I think she retired or got a bad throat from saying "Recalculating"

What voices does your device have?

It's been reported several times that the software update choices from Garmin will only update an existing voice on your device. If your nuvi 2639 only has the OEM voices (probably only Samantha and Michelle), you will not receive installation of the other voices which includes the new Jack.

What voices are on your nuvi? Is it only Real Directions Samantha and No Street Names Michelle? If so, and if you want all seven Real Directions voices plus all the No Street Name voices, you need to install them. More on the subject and the means to install these English language voices is in the FAQ:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42708

Installing all English language voices isn't as long as updating a map but it is a longish download.

Thanks for the information

Thanks for the information on how to get voices.

Samantha, but not Jack

I have all the English voices on my 3597LMTHD. Garmin Express offered the 2.30 update for Samantha, but not for Jack. Web Updater offers the Jack update, but not Express. Go figure.

New Garmin Voice Update 2.30

I have one GPS that I have given my wife's name to the voice.

I have a GPS that I have given my wife's name to the voice. So I don't see what name you have, the GPS will answer to what name that you have input into the GPS.

OK you've stumped me, how can you make a voice "answer" to anything no matter what it's called. Are to talking about the phrase you use to turn on the Voice Guidance screen? If so this thread is talking about the voice that is spoken when the unit is giving driving instruction.

And for me, Option 3:
GE offered neither, WebUpdater offered both.

Voices

I had these on the 855

English American.vpm , Jack, Jill
and GE offered me about 6 British/Australian voices.
Plus American Michelle

Good to hear the

Good to hear the pronounciations are improved. Gonna update my 3 Garmins.

Very strange

GE offered only a map update to 2017.20.
WebUpdater showed a firmware update to 5.40 and a voice update for Samantha on my 65LM. Samantha still mispronounces Lincoln Highway nearby. grin

Voice Updates

Once again learned more about my GPS on this forum..... Thanks to all for the information contained on the Voice Update procedure.

Pronunciation improvements?

Well, just for grins, I switched from Samantha to Jack 2.30 for my trip today just to see what the improvement was like. If it is an improvement, all I can say is it must have been REALLY bad before 2.30! Jack had some very strange inflections and pronunciations on common words, putting emphasis on the wrong syllable, etc. I am definitely going back to Samantha.

More Fun

Can't wait to try Samantha, didn't notice it after the upgrade.

Pronounciations

In NY I live near the Meadowbrook Pkwy and in FL my house is on Meadowbrook Lane, both spelled the same, but my Nuvi pronounces them differently.
All the updates do the same thing.
Never could figure why.

Another example

Similarly, I found that with multiple voice updates, the word Kachina is pronounced two different ways using the same voice with my nuvis. It's hard to figure out how the voice engines do this.

funny ...

I was looking at this node yesterday, then today I notice an icon on my 2689, looks like an email icon, so I click it and wallah, it's a notice that a new voice update is avalible.

No Choice

Finally remembered to switch to Samantha today and it was already using Samantha, so I guess I didn't notice much change. Couldn't find the option to switch back to see the difference.

Garmin voices

Here's the FAQ on voices, versions, installations and updating. Shout if you need help adding them. My guess is that your nuvi 1450 uses the 'better quality TTS voices,' not the worst and not the best available today:

Will load the new Sam soon

Thanks for the heads up will have to check out my update possibly for some better speech.
