Mini USB extension cable with Garmin 70 LMT.

I have a new Garmin 70 LMT to replace my 2798 LMT custom install in my dashboard with fascia. In the 2798 model I could have a usb cable routed through my glove box for updates from the laptop while also having the charger / FM traffic receiver connected in a separate port. (That model used micro usb instead of the slightly larger mini but regardless...). Since the 70 LMT has only one port in the back of the gps can I get a mini usb extension cable, run it through my glove box which would allow me to charge (and get traffic) or update when needed rather than having to rip the whole thing out of my dash every time I need to update since there is not a second USB port? Will this work? I'm thinking this...

Probably
Amazon's description states that the cable works with existing charging and data transfer cables. My guess is it will work as long as it is connected to the GTM xx power and traffic cable that came with your 70LMT. If it is your intention to put the GTM xx in your glove box, be aware that the cable is also the traffic antenna and shielding it will degrade it's reception.
I've done several successful "pigtail" cable installations with various GPSR's using the GTM 60 HD traffic cable. I have no experience with the 70LMT however.
Good luck!
Amazon questions and answers
We don't know the pinout of any USB cables available for sale. Some extension cables might have all pins connected and some might have one missing. Just try it and see.
In the above Amazon link, here is some info in the questions and answers that might be helpful:
Question - I will use this cables as extension. Will this be compatible for my Cobra CDR 820 Professional Grade Dash Cam before I buy it?
Answer - It worked to extend my power to my Garmin GPS but it did not allow the traffic information to pass through to the unit. So with that said, it will pass power but may not pass information, i.e. data.
The answer above may not apply here because we do not know which Garmin GPS is not getting the traffic.

Is two feet enough?

Amazon review:
Works perfect for Garmin Nuvi, June 5, 2016

This review is from: YCS Basics 2 Foot USB Mini Male to Mini Female 5 Pin / 5 Wire Extension Cable (Electronics)
This is the only extension cable I have found that works properly with Garmin Nuvi.
Most cables cause the Nuvi to wake up in computer mode. With this cable, it wakes up as it should in GPS mode.
It also works fine on Nuvi with the Traffic receiver cord.

Again - we don't know which GPS Paul Anthony has.

Amazon cable works on my Nuvi 1490T

All 5 pins connected - two feet long.
I bought one.
Tried it out late yesterday and this morning. It works! My Garmin Nuvi 1490T started up in operational mode, not charge/data mode. Traffic came right up and updated as if this was a factory cable.
Thanks for the heads up. It is appreciated.
great!
Glad it worked!
