Updated nuvi 2598 to version 5.2 and now HD Traffic won't work

Updated the firmware earlier this week. I used smartphone link on my iPhone for traffic one time. Today I tried using my HD Traffic will iPhone disconnected. Message under settings said Receiver Disconnected. It doesn't recognize my power plug as a valid traffic receiver. I believe 5.2 also updated somethings with traffic receiver. Has anyone had a similar problem?

no but ...

... I've seen some report that with 5.20 their power cable now doesn't work with traffic, my 2508 works fine so it's not a universal problem. Rolling firmware back seems to cure it for those affected.

Go to traffic settings

and be certain the cord is selected. It should switch automatically but you can force it.

Settings says Receiver Disconnected

Won't let me manually select anything because it no longer recognizes power cord as valid.

Roll back

For those with this issue rolling back to an earlier firmware apparently cures it.

Anyone else having trouble after update to 5.20

My traffic receiver in power cord is no longer recognized as valid. So far Garmin support has been of no assistance. Anyone else experiencing an issue since upgrading software?

No issue so far

But then the cord only powers the 3597 as it uses Live Traffic.

Nuvi 2598

Updated my Nuvi 2598 last night to 5.2 and guess what, no traffic today as my power lead is not compatible. Well it was yesterday. Any idea on how to go back to previous release.

Here ...

If you have the gupdate.gcd file from the previous version just place it in the .system folder, then switch on your nuvi. It will ask if you really want to install an older firmware, then accept.

Note 5.20 is working perfectly well with mine and others and this 'bug' seems restricted to only a few, not sure why though.

Trying a solution suggested by Garmin

I called customer support and they were quite responsive. They are sending me a new power cord to try with my unit. We will see if that corrects the issue.

I doubt it ..

This is happening to enough to suggest it's not a power cord issue, especially as those that revert to an earlier firmware then get traffic back.

Nuvi 2598

After first email from Garmin Europe trying to convince me it was a coverage issue (I travel the same journey every day), they have now conceded it is a software problem with 5.2 and are working on an update but cannot give a date for release.

Interesting though ...

... how some work though and others don't. No issue with traffic here.

Nuvi 2598 updated to 2.5, now won't work

Same issue as above. Worked before and now it doesn't. Garmin has sent me a replacement power cord. Will report results.

That won't help

You need to revert to 5.10

Garmin have acknowledged there is an issue with 5.20

I've got it ...

I'm going out on a Limb here, I'm thinking that cable they send you will work. I'm not buying that the update hooped your traffic.
I've had that issue with my 3590. I've formatted the unit using
EaseUS Partition Master because it needs to be Fat32. Reinstalled my original files it came with, no werky. Then copied 2016.10 on to it...no werky. Then let Express update it and we are back to square one...no werky. You can read this post>> node/45606

And yet there is now a 5.30 version that has been released specifically for the traffic cable issue. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45616

New cable did not solve problem but upgrading to 5.30 did

Tried new power cable, with device still at 5.20, and it exhibited the same issue with not recognizing as valid. This evening installed 5.30 and tested and everything works as it should again. Can't say why some units worked and some didn't but mine was definitely negatively impacted by upgrading to 5.20. Hope this helps.

And?
I can show you 2 people that the update didn't work on.
If it did cause the problem why is Garmin offering to replace the Cable for cagpsfan? Not that one shouldn't try the update, but you would think that there would be a lot more than just 2 people in here that lost their Traffic.

Lots of others with the issue

Being reported on other forums too, definitely the update screwed it for certain cables as the 5.30 update is restoring the traffic function for those that lost it.

I've lost traffic on my 2689

I've lost traffic on my 2689 aswell.

V5.3 worked for me.

Garmin support sent replacement cable, no fix. V5.3 installed, problem fixed.

I'll give Garmin some credit, their support people did try to fix the problem the best they could by sending out a new cable immediately.

Unfortunate for them, this self induced problem ends up costing them money; SW re-roll and hardware. Not counting some loss of credibility with its customers. Enough said, thanks all for the help.

@Donadoni and fauskar

Welcome to the site.

We usually recommend the following.

There is a "Learn" button in the upper right of this page next to "red light cameras" that takes you to a Getting Started page. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Learn" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Note that the Learn Button will give you access to two valuable reference pages -
the "Index" to all of the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) and the Glossary of Terms and Links.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Tutorials.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup). It also assures that you put your (newer) unit into a state where you can see all of the folders there.

The question is: Did you have 5.3 installed before you got the new cable? Or did the Cable they sent by itself not work and you had to install the update?
I'm still a bit baffled about this. We all know they hang out in here. Why would they be sending traffic cables before making you try the update?

Well that explains things...

Well now I know why the Traffic wasn't working on my 2598 while in Phoenix a week ago. smile Was wondering at the time why it wasn't picking up any Traffic notifications even though I was sitting in traffic.

Oops Garmin
