Garmin Express Issue With Windows 10.

Up till now, I have had very few issues with Garmin Express, but since I have upgraded to Windows 10 it has quit working. It goes through the motions, but when it gets to preparing device, it just hangs up here and will not download the new maps. Has anyone else encountered this issue, and is there going to be an upgrade to Garmin Express to work with Windows 10?

support?

have you contacted garming support to let them know of the issue? they may have a solution/workaround?

Support, YES.

I have contacted them, but have not received an answer yet. I really was hoping that someone else had already been through this, and had an answer to the question, not a have you contacted Garmin statement that does no one any good.

I know this doesn't help

I know this doesn't help with your issue but I've upgraded to Win10 and have had no issues with Express. Have upgraded Express without issue and downloaded and installed maps without issue.

Reinstall GE

When I upgraded to Windows 10 there were a couple of programs I had to reinstall.

Uninstall Garmin Express, reboot, then download a fresh copy and reinstall it.

Garmin Nuvi 2450

This is also what I'd try

Good idea. It can't hurt and may solve the issue, especially since so many other Win 10 users have no issue with Garmin Express.

Thoughts for the OP:

How much free space does the computer have?

The two nuvis you own could also have map updates performed with GarminMapUpdater rather than Garmin Express.

Same Here...

I just tried to get G.E. working on my Win10 machine with dismal results. I tried uninstalling/rebooting/reinstalling as well as removing the Garmin folder under the hidden AppData folder. The Garmin powers up when I plug the USB in, but Win10 won't acknowledge it's hooked up no matter what I do.

After upgrading to Windows 10, I've experienced several issues. I had an older version of DVDFab stop working, the Windows Backup stopped working, and now this!

I'm glad I made a Win7 backup before I converted!

This site shows something similar that you can look at.

Two Reinstalls of GE, But Seems To Be Working Now,

I finally did a "complete" uninstall of Express, then did a clean install. It seems to be working now. Just a note to other Windows 10 users having issues with Express. A normal uninstall did not work for me. It leaves residual files and registry items. You need to get a good uninstall program, or if you fell confident enough, go in an edit the Registry to get rid of left over "junk". I still don't know why it seems to work for some that upgrade, and others have issues. I suspect that it depends on what other programs, especially antivirus software, that you have loaded on your computer.

I suggest

I have had extremely good results with Revo Uninstaller. I prefer the portable freeware version which you can download from
http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?q=revo&m=

It runs from the folder into which you unzip the download. This is "sweet irony"! Revo does not be to "installed".

Run Revo in the Advanced mode to really clean up leftover registry entries and orphan folders.

Uninstall.

I am skeptical of programs that "claim" to do much more than Microsoft provided utilities however I am another satisfied Revo user. To make this a valid post for this group I have just ordered a Nuvicam reconditioned from a Cyber Monday special at GPSCity.

previous win version

Not sure if this matters but which windows version did you upgrade to ver.10 from?

revo

ive been using this utility for a couple of years now and it is a very useful utility, and it doesn't run in the background when not being used and doesn't screw up your puter !

Windows 10 Upgrade

Makinja, as you said, I don't know that it matters which version, but I was running Windows 8.1 Pro and upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. It could possibly be the Pro version that GE does not like, but I have been running the the Pro versions for as long as I can remember, and haven't had any issues till now with GE.

.

Have had no oroblems on Windows 10

Also Been Using Revo

For awhile. Good program. Much better than what Windows itself does for uninstalling.

I think that most software provides its own uninstaller - using of course APIs provided by Microsoft. So, if the uninstaller was designed well, it will remove all registry entries and files/folders. Otherwise, there is a lot of "stuff" that can be leftover. This is what Revo Uninstaller targets.

+1 for Revo Uninstaller

Have been using advanced mode for many years and absolutely no issues.

I upgraded 3 PCs, from Win7 Pro, Win8.1Pro and Win8.1 small screen laptop to Win10Pro. I don't recall if I had to uninstall and reinstall GE and I may have had to reload the Garmin GPS drivers, but GE works (as much as that buggy program ever worked). I usually use GarminMapInstaller, keeps it simple and it works every time. Plus on 2 of my 3 PCs, I can install the maps on the d: hard drive instead of the default C: SSD that GE won't let me change.
