Nuvi 3590 vs. 3597

I wanted to express my views on the 3590 vs. 3597 that may be helpful for those looking at these two Nuvis. When I got my 3590, I was convinced that the only differences between it and the 3597 were the magnetic mount and minor cosmetic differences. My opinion was supported by the many side-by-side table comparisons. I couldn't have been more wrong.

From day one, the 3590 bluetooth connection was unreliable and smartphone link never worked properly. A replacement had the same problems. So I gave up and got the 3597 and the difference is night and day.

Everything on the 3597 works perfectly and using it is a true joy. Additionally, the interface and exterior styling set it apart from the 3590 by a huge margin. These two nuvis are not at all alike.

Go for the 3597 and you'll never look back.

It’s interesting that the 3790 lists for $20 more than the 3597.

A constant complaint

I've used the Garmin side-by-side comparisons a lot and probably have offered a link comparing two or more units myself. Garmin's table shows identical features with a bright white row while showing differences by shading the row in the table.

Rant...

I have always been annoyed at the comparisons though for showing apparent differences (the shaded rows) when in fact, it's highlighting Garmin's inconsistent descriptions. As an example, looking at the link provided, one would assume the 3590 offers extra Junction Views (Photo Real and Birds Eye views) when in fact, both units offer them. Ditto for the shaded row for "accepts data cards." It's like Garmin uses different marketing teams to write the specs for a given model and prevents them from reading the specs of previou models.

..Rant off

Agreed

I share your opinion Craig of Garmin’s inconsistent, misleading and sometimes inaccurate comparison tool. I use it mostly for major specs like unit size, screen size, memory, etc. It often generates more questions than it answers but it isn’t a bad starting point for research.

A better, but not perfect, comparison site I use occasionally:

I probably should have posted this link in the first place.
