2598 won't install update
I tried to install the update and it got an error saying that I needed to add a microSD card. I did and tried the update, but get the same error you are seeing. Hopefully someone will help.
I have an ad installed
Thanks. I do have an sd installed and have been able to update before.
Until morale improves the beatings will continue
I'm trying some tricks
I'll let you know how I make out.
Fixed
Every time I went to try the install again from within Garmin Express it seemed to start the file at around 50% and then error out. My suspicion was that the downloaded file was messed up. So I changed the options and told it to download to both my PC and device. It still failed. So then I told it to download only to my PC and it worked. So I figured it had the file now, but installing to just the device still didn't work. There was now also an option to "Reinstall Maps to Device", but that didn't work either. So I was on the hunt for the partial/corrupted file.
I went into C:\Program Files 9x86)\Garmin and looked around. I saw the map file it loaded to my PC in a Maps folder, but couldn't find the device map corrupted file. But in the Garmin folder I found an executable MapInstall.exe file. When I ran that it showed me my current map, and listed the newer map file to install. I selected it and it installed!
I hope this works for you.

delete
the map files on the SD card.
NOTE: That's the SD CARD ONLY.

Are you sure you got all the features available on your 2598 using MapInstall? Normally MapInstall just installs the map files and not the associated feature files (voice recognition, junction view, traffic trends, etc.)
Incidentally, welcome to POI Factory ... there is lots of good information and help available here.

I don't know if I have it all I guess. I'll just wait until the next update and see what happens.
Missing features.
Your choice, but I suspect you will want to fix this before the next map update if several key features on your nuvi no longer work.
