2016.10 happy with it

Took my 2797 out for a run today. So far I'm very happy with the new map. I even have to admit I kinda like the split screen vs the full screen JCV. It kicked in where I've never seen it do so.

Aside from showing outdated POI stores, gas stations and restaurants, the actual map is getting better every time.

SUPPOSITION MODE ON:

I suspect most of the POI's loaded in the GPS are really things that a company paid to have included in a map build for Some number of map updates.

Seems like a reasonable way to garner additional revenue from companies as both locations where ad information about company x resides as well as a location to be found via, name or category.

For example you can say find place DOUBLE TREE HOTEL and it might find several in tour General area.

You might also say find catagory, then lodging then hotels and find DOUBLE TREE as an entry or at the loging prompt ask for DOUBLE TREE.

I've tried it several ways and it seems to work.

But we're likely going to agree Garmin didn't do this out of the goodness of their hearts. BTW, some of these built in POIs have the phone number associated with them although I've not figured out how to have the GPS call the location via my stupid phone!

SUPPOSITION MODE OFF!

This, for the most part, it an incorrect assumption.

The ones for which you see the company logo are likely paid, but the others are not.

Latest map update

We took a short trip last week through Columbus Ohio on the newly completed I-670 interchange. The lane assist was spot on. Love it!

Just curious..not picking fights.. I've wondered about these thins many a time and can only imagine them as being there because Garmin was paid to put em' there... Also there seems to be placed there that have surprised me.

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

Finally went back to

Finally went back to Illinois and got wife's car (Moved to Mountains of NC in July)......
In her car is our old Nuvi 660, that is limping along without Traffic because the rear connector went dead. Power to 660 is via a custom made USB Cable that powers 660 from USB port, and maps running off of SD Card.

Once at our NC Home, we updated deleted the old SD card Maps, and updated the SD Card in our computer using GE, then renamed the Maps, Per Alanb's instructions...

NO PROBLEMS!!! (Lower 49 states on SD Card in our Nuvi 660)

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

...

The maps are fine, but it would be nice if they removed restaurants that have been closed for years and added businesses that have been open for years.

Agree

Too many closed restaurants showing in my area too. The same road still misspelled and mispronounced as a result. I guess enough people haven't submitted corrections to have the spelling corrected.

What is the name

What is the name of the road in what city? I'll fix it on Map Creator
