and not one person will go to jail.

Sad that in reality the bribes and fines are just a cost of doing business. The company officers and elected officials involved should be in jail.

I shouldn't be surprised...

but I still find this stuff somewhat stunning. It's such a shameful violation of fundamental trust.

What, they didn't see the signs, "Bribery Photo Enforced"?

Ironic

I wonder if they caught them on camera when they were bribing!

Payola

I wonder if anyone received a free garbage plate from Nick Tahou's? grin

Revenue enhancement, more money for entitlements (EBT cards) to buy votes, more money for politicians private bank account! "It's such a shameful violation of fundamental trust", no its not, its why people run for political office, why spend thousands, millions running for a Job that only pays one to ten percent of what it costs to run for the Job?

There are some honest, dedicated Politicians, but that has become an exception to the rule over the years. You almost have to be a crook to buy enough votes to get elected these days.

LOL

That was good

Money

It's all about the money twisted

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

HBO

should base season 8 of True Detective on red light cameras, seeing as the notion of fining people for running red lights is so intriguing. All the s** dr*** and rock and roll centered around these things is mind boggling.

RLC Bribery Scandal hits Rochester NY

Rochester isn't the only place where things like this have happened. wink

Guilty

Here is an account of an actual case in Ohio where there was a guilty plea relating to red light camera company bribery:

It's always been about

the money. What needs to be done is strongly enforce the law so perpetrators of kickbacks etc get VERY long jail terms. The newspapers need to help out in encouraging citizens not to get screwed by dishonest local officials.

Surprised

I'm NOT surprised about the investigation.

I have a modest proposal

For white collar crimes such as bribery and kickbacks, instead of jailing the offenders, publicly have them dance a jig at the end of a rope in public. Make examples of the offenders as we might bring out a shift to being more honest.

lmao!

you would be stupid to not think that is stretches to every state and every province!

I don't think it could happen where I live! On second thought, our former county executive is doing seven years for corruption.

This should get its own category: Red Collar Crime.

Another item is how laws were changed to make it harder to fight

And monies collected went way up to make Ticket Cams more profitable

More newsworthy if there were no bribes/kickbacks

At this point, it would probably be more newsworthy that an enforcement camera contract were negotiated without bribes/kickbacks.

So far....

So far, just the one conviction for Ohio, but I have seen some news articles that state that other places are starting to look into their own situations to see if any bribery was involved.

Rochester

Wasn't it once the whq for Kodak? Today it would seem that whatever goes on there is not very significant.

Bribery imho is a human condition. RLCs can't be bribed. i.e to argue, we need to get rid of RLCs due to bribery, doesn't hold water.

For pete's sake, the GW Bridge had lanes shut down due to corruption, doesn't mean we remove controls from the bridge as a result.

Well...

In all fairness the article does say there is no indication that Rochester is under investigation. It is possible it is isolated to the Chicago/Cincinnati/Columbus areas. Here on Long Island, Nassau County RLC's are run by American Traffic Solutions and Suffolk County RLC's are run by Xerox. Redflex has no business around here that I am aware of.

I am shocked at such a betrayal of the public trust!

What next? Corrupt awarding of public construction contracts?

the only thing missing is

The Tommy guns and ball bats, things haven't changed very much in the political landscape from the 20's. Still back room deals and lobbying with bribes.

We just have to look at The Big Dig as a model of how to conduct a major project. Talk about winning. And the clams are not bad either.
