Time for New GPS - Garmin 2639 and 2689, or Other?

In the near future I am considering a new Garmin. Does anyone have any experience with the Garmin 2639 or 2689, or does anyone have a suggestion for a new GPS? Thank you in advance for your information.

Some thoughts

Not having either, I can only offer some generic answers.

It appears that you've decided on a 6" display from your two models under consideration. I don't know what you use now or how it's mounted, but I offer these two observations: 1) both models do not use a powered mount/cradle, meaning that the power cord connects directly to the nuvi itself meaning that each time you remove/replace the nuvi from your vehicle, you need to disconnect/connect the cable (which may be different than what you're used to if you have a nuvi with a powered mount now); 2) a 6" nuvi display model will be bigger and heavier than older models meaning that you may want to avoid some mounting methods like the air-vent mount that may not be able to support the weight.

All I see different between the 39 and 89 is Voice Command and Bluetooth. If you want either or both, get the 89. If you want neither, save some $$ and get the 39. I'm not sure of how well the voice command works on these models but I will say that on my 3597, the Voice Command works very well and is worth paying more for.

If you do want a device with a powered cradle (the power cord connects to the cradle so the nuvi and be removed/replaced without disconnecting a cable), let us know and we'll offer other choices for you in place of the 39 or 89.

Many new nuvis come with only two English language voices, Samantha (Speaks Street Names) and Michelle (doesn't). You can add many more English language voices through Garmin Express or myGarmin:

The 39 and 89 both use the best quality TTS3 voices.

Let us know what you buy!

Power Cradle would be a nice feature

Thanks for the information. A 5" screen would be okay, too. Also, I was unaware of the power cradle and would rather have a power cradle than have to disconnect the cable from the GPS device. I am open to any other models and appreciate your advice.

Powered cradle

That's a toughie. To my knowledge (correct me if need be) the only two non-discontinued nuvi models with a powered mount are the brand new nuvicam and the other Prestige series nuvi, the 3597. I think the nuvicam's about $400 (new only) while the 3597 (a 5" display model) is around $250 refurbished or $300 new.
