Time Zone Map V16.01 Fixes V16.00 Problem

I was just updating some POI files when Garmin Express showed me that Time Zone Map Update 16.01 was available. I had updated to 16.00 yesterday (Sunday) and had to change my GPS to Mass Storage Mode to be able to use POI Updater. After installing 16.01 everything works great again. I changed back to MTP Auto Detect and now the GPS correctly communicates with POI Updater. I have not tried Webupdater but Isuspect it will work correctly as well.
Not a verified fix yet...
It may be a fix for the WebUpdater/GarminExpress but the "fix" comes from Garmin pushing v15 of the TZ Map file again and not a "true" v16 or v16.01...users likely still have v15 of the TZ Map file (which was fine to begin with), even after "updating" to v16.01

Installs V15
I checked the version that is installed after the V16.01 update and in fact V16.01 installs V15.0. The good thing is that the GPS communicates again.
.
Thanks for the verification that you actually got TZ Map v15 rather than v16.01.

Think I'll wait this one out for a while...
Glad they pulled the buggy one, but posting an old version with a new version number is not cool...

Still Says I'm Up To Date
GE still says I'm up to date even though I never updated to the bad TZ map.

It's possible that the unit won't accept an older version number. They might have to add a routine to tell the unit it has the older version. Then if the update fails the unit may be in worse trouble than it was.

Thanks for the info.
This is one of the great things about coming to POI Factory, getting information to avoid problems.
Thank you again!
Garmin Says...
Per this Garmin website:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4747
Garmin says that V15 is the latest TZ map.
And Garmin Express says I'm up to date.

Time zone File
Just for curiosity, what is this file for?
It is my understanding that the time zones across North America have been the same since time immemorial.

Specifically, Time zone boundaries have changed greatly since their original introduction and changes still occasionally occur. DOT issues press releases when these changes are made. Generally, time zone boundaries have tended to shift westward. Places on the eastern edge of a time zone can effectively move sunset an hour later (by the clock) by shifting to the time zone immediately to their east.
It's also possible that Garmin TZ map is for the world, not just North America. This could greatly increase the need for revisions.

Now I know

Well I guess ignorance is bliss Craig, I never knew that.

But then at least we Yanks don't have Newfoundland where it's always 30 minutes before (or is it after) the hour.
Maybe Newfoundland is better than Indiana. I lived in SW Ohio for over 20 years and for the life of me, I never knew what time it was in Indiana. My eyes would glaze over whenever someone tried to explain Indiana 'Fast Time' to me.
Good Grief!
As if DST nonsense isn't bad enough.

As of 5/26/15 they are up to 16.02 on the TZ file.
1. Still can't account for why I updated my 2 Oregon hikers to the 16.x series.
2. Yet another reason I remain in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it school" when it comes to our Nuvi (x3).
