Factory Reset without working touchscreen?

Would like to remove all personal data from my Nuvi 3970 but I cannot follow the normal factory reset procedure as the touchscreen doesn't work.

Unit works otherwise. Connects to PC fine. Can run updates via Garmin Express, etc.

Is there anyway to reset it via my PC? Or what files can I safely delete to keep unit functional but erase my personal files?

Plan is to sell the Nuvi 3790/accessories on ebay for parts or repair. Someone may want to tackle the digitizer replacement. Just don't want all my stuff still on it.

Thanks!

problematic

It seems that there is no way to reset Nuvi with broken screen. At least I couldn't find one.

But if you are selling it for parts there is brutal option. Just plug it to PC and then do format from PC. To be sure make full format option instead of quick. It should remove all data, as we can see from many post about formatting Nuvi.

that's what I was afraid of

So far I've used the POI loader app to erase all my POIs, and I've emptied the GPX and the reports folders. I think that's most of it. Not sure about stuff like the "Home" setting, but seeing as the package will have my address on it anyway....

.

If you connect it to BaseCamp and delete all the Favorites that way, will that remove them from the unit?

Dave, connect to your PC and

Dave, connect to your PC and look in the Garmin/GPX folder and delete Current.gpx and temp.px. This will get rid of everything.

Deleting the current.gpx will NOT get rid of the favorites. It’s located in a hidden area of internal memory and will recreate itself with it's contents on the next reboot and the favorites remain.
By leaving the temp.gpx file on there will only add the contents to the current.gpx on the next reboot.
The temp.gpx must be removed as with any .gpx and .gpi files on the Nuvi.
Motorcyle Mama's suggestion of using Basecamp is a better approach.

In addition I would like to mention DO NOT format the Nuvi, this will make it undesirable to sell for someone wishing to repair the touchscreen. Many operating files will no longer be available to the new owner.
