map region problem.

This has been noted in the past as a map region problem. Garmin does not support voice recognition for "partial" maps. For North America, I think you have to install either the Full NA or Lower 49 to get the voice recognition.

ok

I installed "Full coverage of North America 2015.30" and reinstalled it.

Text??

By any chance have you changed "text" language to something other than American English?

myMaps

So when you look at settings > maps and vehicles > myMaps, is it showing "CN North America NT 2015.3 ALL"? And is that selection checked?

Master Reset

Have you tried a master reset?

Make a backup first.

OK

Thanks.

Agreed.

It sounds like you have everything correct, so I agree with jgermann. A master reset is your next step. If that doesn't fix it, you may be in for a call to Garmin Customer Support.

NG

Well, it didn't work. Garmin support. Thanks.

To rule some things out

When you first updated the map and got this reply, was it from a full North America map update or something smaller? You mention North America 2015.30 being checked in myMaps. What other maps appear in this list and are any checked?

Your nuvi 2595 is an 8GB device so the full map will fit on the device itself. Can you confirm that you did a standard map update (with Garmin Express or GarminMapUpdater) and didn't do something like the clone method to put the map on a SD card or something else we haven't thought to ask yet?

You now have all of North America 2015.30 on your device and voice recognition still doesn't work. Can you try finding an address or business (with finger taps rather than voice control), then Go to that location? Will the nuvi create a route? My thought here is that even though your device shows all of North America 2015.30 installed, it may be corrupt. If you can't route to a destination, then you have more awry than just voice recognition.

Is your "This feature is not available for the United States" message a written message on the display or an audio message? It seems odd that it can recognize your spoken wakeup command if voice recognition is truly not working.

It wouldn't hurt to use Garmin Express or WebUpdater to confirm that you have the latest firmware.

Good luck.

Have you tried reinstalling English?

Some older versions of Garmin Express and MapUpdater have been known to trash the ASR files with a map update.

Have you tried reinstalling the English language files? In Garmin express, select your device, then Tools, then Language files under Optional Updates. Select English and it should refresh your ASR voice recognition files.

I like that thought

A good thought, especially if the first map update was a "less than full North America" update which may have deleted the ASR files. It'd also possibly be helpful if we hear what voice is chosen right now for navigational commands to the driver and whether they seem to work.

If still not working, it'd be useful to find out what files (and sizes and maybe dates) are currently in the ASR folder.

Also ..

Just out of curiosity, what voice file are you using? Are you by any chance using one of the custom or non-tts voices?

Edit ... just read your post CraigW. I guess we are thinking along the same lines.

Yup

Yes indeed. I don't have any solution in mind but have seen in the past that by not asking some simple questions, we 'help offerers' make assumptions preventing us from going down the right path. If we hear that the navigation voice is a custom or non-TTS voice (or maybe Swahili), we may be further along than by assuming a standard Samantha or something.

It looks to me like the nuvi 2595 is not a TTS3 model but the standard better quality TTS voice engine device.

Hmm, another question to be answered. What is the wakeup command on the device? Is it the default "Voice Command" or was it set to something else?

yes

That's the only map there.

Yes, used Express. Trying to down load now after reset.

Julie ? Same one I always used.

That's funny, there is no listing for American English.

OK now

After the reset and re-downloading the map, it's working now. Thanks for all the suggestions. Now to see what else is working or not.

Canadian French?

Isn't Julie a Canadian French voice? If so, are you also using French for voice recognition?

Edit: Glad you got it working again.

spoke too soon.

Well my files are listed as "internal storage" and "memory card". What did I miss?

Mass Storage mode.

The reset put it back in MTP mode. You will want to switch back to Mass Storage mode.

Fixed Mine

Voice recognition on my nuvi 2797LMT stopped working.
I disabled voice and shut it down.
After a minute, I turned it back on and enabled voice.
Now it's working just fine.
Technical weirdness abounds.
