What 7" Garmin would you buy, and why?

Wife says maybe we should consider a new a New Garmin.

I'm not certain...

We'd want 7" unit... I would assume Lifetime Maps and Traffic...

What is your preferences?

(This does not mean I am giving up on 660)

Considering the 7" models were designed for semi-trucks and big RVs, I don't see much use for one in a normal car or SUV. For me, mounting on a bean bag on the dash would mean I would loose a good amount of visibility. You have to remember the area covered by that large unit increases as you look toward the horizon. I've got a 5" 3597 and it works extremely well in my full-size SUV on a bean-bag on top of my dash at the center.

how about nuvi

how about nuvi 2689LMT?

Specs appears to be same as 2789

Size of screen .6" narrower & shorter than 2789

i saw

A mini Cooper yesterday with a 7" GPS stuck on the windshield yesterday... It took up a lot over space and blocked a lot of view. How he gets away without being cited I'll never know.

7" Garmin

I purchased my 2797LMT refurb from DrivenGPS and couldn't be happier.
Highly recommended, and the price was too good to pass up.

one suggestion

Cut a piece of cardboard the size of the 7" unit and tape it so your current unit is centered behind it. Now, try to find a place in your car to mount it so it doesn't obscure your view out the windows.

760

I will stick with my vintage nüvi 760. It plays my books from audible.com and none of the new units do that. It also has an audio out port and lets me play it through the car stereo. When it gives me directions it pauses the book and then, after giving the directions, starts it up again about 1 second prior to where it paused so nothing is missed.

It's old but it works great and gives me what I want.

New Garmin

i got one of the first Garmin 7" the 2797. It does take up a lot of vision area. finally modded the windshield mount & screwed it to the dash of my Ranger. It has made mistakes at least 3 times. Once told me to get in left lane in 5 pm traffic then changed it's "mind" as i went by the road i should have turned on. Not quite 2 years old and the more i hear (on here) and the net i want the 3597. The old one has a plastic lens. The 3597 can store 1,000 waypoints if i'm not mistaken and has the capacitive lens

Saw the 7" RV & Truck

Saw the 7" RV & Truck models, but ABT only had the 6" units in stock... Got a 6" unit... Wife is happy....

(I'm convinced that rear interface connector is dead now.... But still intent on getting 660 operational via power from USB port)

7" Garmin

For me, would never go back to smaller screen once you have used a 7", like the 2797 -- and I have had the 3.5", 4", and 5" models. 7" works fine without obstruction on my 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon where I use the bean bag mount. Note, do not use the 2797 with the windshield stick-on mount; its a question of when, not if, the sticky breaks down and a big piece of electronics falls into your lap!. Less of a problem with the bean bag; although I permanently glued the garmin sticky to the bean bag.

Only exception might be the new 6" models especially if Garmin ever got their act together and gave us a 6" or 7" Dash Cam integrated with a GPS, like they do already for the asian market. And I also have the 660 which is my backup now, since I gave my 1490T to my daughter.

7" is overkill

I want nav info, when driving a 7" screen might get confusing if you have it set for too much info. If you have bad eyesight you need it corrected to drive safely so that also is not justification for a 7" screen.

2797

I got the 2797 and I am really pleased with it.
I soon got used to the screen size (perfect for the optically challenged) and it has a good range of features.
