67LTM Voice

My grandson was trying to free up space on my 67LTM and he lost all the voice files. Anyone know where I can find the replacements. He did do a backup but the voice files was no included.

Downloade

Download and install either Garmin's Webupdater or Garmin Express software to you computer. Attach the Nuvi and run either program. Available voices will be listed and you can download the ones needed.

I prefer Webupdater for this and it can be found at:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99...

Although your going to probably need Garmin Express at some point anyway so you can also install it from:

For the PC - http://software.garmin.com/en-GB/express-download.html

For the Mac - http://software.garmin.com/en-GB/express-download.html#mac

Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.

Garmin Express.

Just use the new version of Garmin Express. Click on your device, then Tools, then Language Files under Optional Updates. Select English and it should download all English voices. Once done, you can delete the ones you don't want.

I did d/load express and did what you said. However I thought I had some voice files other then the ones I can down load, I could be wrong though.

You may be right.

I just tested this on a clone of my 3597LMTHD with Garmin Express 4.0.5.0. I deleted all the files in the \Voice folder, then did the English download as I described in my earlier post. To my dismay, I got none of the \Voice files back. It did download new files in the .system\ASR folder, but nothing in the Voice folder. I also tried the "Check for Updates" link in Express against the empty \Voice file and it didn't find anything.

I thought this worked in the previous versions of Express, but maybe I was wrong. Or ... maybe Garmin broke it in this version. In any case, try the dashboard in my.Garmin.com, or use Webupdater as Rick suggested.

Thank You

Alan thanks for the help. Maybe i can find some one with the 67LTM and down load the files from them. Thanks again.

I know this is not your device but you can do yourself and your grandson a favor by backing up the device as soon as you get the files back. Then encourage your grandson to do a backup before making any changes to the device.

Have you tried WebUpdater yet?

Correction ... Express 4.0.5.0 DOES update voices correctly

I figured out what I did wrong. I deleted the voice files on the clone, not my real device. Since there is no way to reboot a clone, the GarminDevice.xml file does not get refreshed with the missing voice files, so Express does not recognize there are missing files.

I retested this by manually editing GarminDevice.xml on my clone and changing all the voice version tags to version 0. When I ran the Express optional language update this time, I got fresh copies of all the English voices.

On a real nuvi, you would accomplish this by rebooting your nuvi before running Express.

TTS3 voices

The nuvi 67 uses RealDirections so it uses TTS3 voices. The device has seven available TTS3 voices plus some non-TTS (non text-to-speech):

I am of the opinion that WebUpdater will not offer all the voices available to your unit* although I've never tested this with a 67.

There are two ways to restore (or add) voices to your unit and both have been described earlier which will work for you:

1) Use Garmin Express. This will add all English language voices and involves a several hundred MB download.

2) Go to the myGarmin web site dashboard and selectively add whichever English language voices you wish to install. To use myGarmin, the nuvi must first have been registered (with Garmin Express).

PS—when you stated that a backup was made but it didn't include the voices, it may mean that the nuvi 67 was in MTP mode which only presents a few files. To fully backup the nuvi 67, it first must be switched to MS mode.

* (From the above faq):
Voice updates can be found with WebUpdater, myDashboard or Garmin Express. These three methods will offer you only the voices your nuvi voice engine can use. One issue complicating matters is that with the newest GPS models offering RealVoice and RealDirections TTS3 voices, it appears that a new voice will not be offered to you until you have first downloaded and installed the voice through Garmin Express or myDashboard--WebUpdater will not alert you of new TTS3 voices until you've first installed them. WebUpdater will offer updates to these TTS3 voices once they're first installed.

must select Update

@gturner2, at the mygarmin.com site, when you find the device, you will click the "Continue" button

The next screen will - in the lower laft pane - have "Software Updates". Don't let this deter you like it did the first time I saw it. I thought, I want "voices" - I do not want "updates".

Go ahead and click the "Update link" and you will get options - one of which is "Voices"

If you have not registered your grandson's device now would be a good time to do so.

Found the files

Every thing back as it should be Thanks all
