Yellow Color when attaching a MTP device

I was doing some testing of what happens on a restart the other day. I did a master reset on my 2595 and - as I expected - the factory defaults include being in MTP mode.

Before putting the device back into MS mode, I attached it to the computer and noticed that the Icon of the Tower and the USB cord were in yellow (versus the white I am used to).

When I put the device back into MS mode, the Icon and USB cord were back as white again.

Never noticed that before.

.

I've noticed the color difference but never made the association...probably because it's very rare that I reset my units now and have them default to MTP. No firmware updates for my models mean less work for me testing and having to reset to clear things out. Thanks for the info, jgermann. cool

Same with the 3597

Never noticed it either. In any case, it's a good indicator of what mode you are in when you connect to a computer.

Thanks jgermann for the heads up!

Great observation John.

Thanks for sharing.

Great Observation

This may save us time when members have trouble moving files or folders being hidden. We can just ask them what color the tower is , if it's yellow, then we can give instructions how to get into MS mode.

Of course this will only apply to those models that have MTP mode. For a list of those units click on the link.

It's

It's amazing that all you old veteran Nuvi folks never noticed the color difference between MTP and USB modes before. Spotted that the first time I changed my 3597 over from MTP to USB and just figured everyone else must see that as well. grin

Maybe, some of them are like me and had already learned that they needed to put the newer devices into MS mode in order to back them up. So, when I got both the 2595 and the 2597, I immediately followed the instructions in
What is MTP Mode and how to change to Mass Storage (Garmin)
and immediately did a backup.

That is why I was so surprised when I saw the color after the Master Reset.

You got the OLD part right, but I have an excuse. Since I don't own any models with MTP mode I couldn't have noticed it. smile
