Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – February 2015

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

I ordered up a SD card and bean bag mount to be ready for my next trip. The mount comes with a leather bag for the GPS it would have been nice to get one with the unit. We wrapped it in a facecloth and put it in a bag but it got marred by other objects in there...

It was Wrigleyville, Chicago,IL. Figured the nav would show via i-94 instead it was through Lincoln ave.

Using Wrigley Field as the start, Basecamp chose Irving Park to I90 then onto I94 to get there.

I'm assuming Lincoln Ave is 41? Probably the way I'm making the route is dependent on the starting point. Wrigleyville doesn't relate exactly to a point, only an area.

The starting point was the intersection of Halsted and Waveland which is very close to Wrigleyfield. The end point was 4999 Old Orchard Center, Skokie, IL 60077. The route suggested was Halsted to Irving Park to Western to 41 (yes Lincoln is 41).

Dunno what the difference

Dunno what the difference is. For Navigation settings, did yo have Trends turned on, or maybe set for best fuel mileage? I'll have to wander out to the truck and get the GPS, (2597) and see what it does.

Manatees at Crystal River, FL

Knoxville, TN to Crystal River, FL and back home again in 51 hours. About 950 miles for the weekend. We did get an unusual route from our motel to an eatery for supper. Apparently the motel is so close to the entrance ramp, the GPS thought we were ON the ramp and couldn't go through the underpass for a more direct route. We went down the interstate 6 miles to the next exit and wrapped back around to where we were going. I didn't take that route the next morning as we searched for a breakfast location.

I simulated your route. I had Traffic Trends turned on. I used the Wrigley Field starting point and I used the Intersection you provided. Both methods too me straight across to I90 then North on I 94.

I'm not sure why your unit took you up Lincoln, unless you had Shortest Route selected. Which I think yu aid you had Fastest.

Thanks a lot phranc

You have been most helpful. Let me dig a little bit into what the problem is. At least I now know it is something in the way that I have mine set up. I don't think the inbuilt navigation has traffic trends option (it's the multimedia center 430N RHB unit) but I did go and check that the "Avoidance" option had highways un-checked i.e. not chosen.

The Trends thing will be

The Trends thing will be under the Traffic Tab, if it has that. Check the routing settings, you should have it set for Faster, or Quickest. Recheck Avoidances. If you have Highways checked, that may affect you. Actually, having Highways checked will cause you to not use Interstates. Just tried that.

Western NY to Eastern TN

We made the round trip to the tri city area of TN from Western NY a couple of weeks ago. Got back just as the weather collapsed, drove the last 100 miles on slippery roads and white outs. My old 2460LMT seems to be showing her age, seem to be running slower with the last go around of updates and does strange things from time to time. Of course the battery has about 15 seconds of standby power. Guess it is time for a new and improved model. Thinking of going to one of the 6" models this time.

More trips around...

town shopping. Longer trip scheduled for next week.

Just set itinerary for trip to AK and NY this summer. Weddings bells are ringing for our son.

Staying Live

Keeping the windmill.

Yesterday in the snow

Had to puck up grand daughters while their mother was stuck on the other side of town. What usually takes 20 minutes took two hours for us. The roads we usually take were blocked off with wrecks so we went another way we knew, the back way that had not been traveled much and quiet heavy with snow and ice. We were glad we had the in dash unit just in case we had to find a way we didn't know. Didn't have to use it but was a nice security blanket...

It took our daughter 5 hours for a normal 45 minute trip...

And we live in Texas. Not used to this sort of stuff.

Tried charging the Garmin

Tried charging the Garmin today using a 12V PS and the DC cable. Charged for a few hours but couldn't tell if it was done. Unplugged it and it only had 2 bars. Ran it for a few minutes and only one bar! I just want to keep the battery full until next use. My old Garmin lasted 8 hours on the battery and we never plugged it into the car. That's progress for you!
