Touring Europe

In planning my upcoming trip to Europe, I needed a GPS. Renting was too expensive so I sold my old clunky (2 pound) Lowrance iWay500c and bought a nuvi 670. IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME! In reality it turned out to be a marriage saver because my wife is completely useless as a navigator.
I got my unit a few weeks before departure and created a massive list of favorites of all the placed we planned to visit including castles on the Rhine to the Viking Museum in Roskilde Denmark. Admittedly, some of the POIs were not in the nuvi database but I was able to find them on Google Earth and simply entered the coordinates. PERFECT NAVIGATION.
My nuvi guided us (almost without flaw) from Frankfurt Germany, up and down the Rhine over to Amsterdam up to the northern reaches of Denmark and finally to Copenhagen. We used it not just in the car but on foot as well. While in Copenhagen, we took a city bus to an area called Christiana. About 5 miles from our hotel. It was a gorgeous day so we decided to walk back. The nuvi took got us there without a single glitch.
I even played with it on the plane while crossing the Atlantic. It was pretty cool to see my silver sports car heading west, just south of Iceland, approaching Greenland doing 583 MPH!
I love my nuvi!
Wow, thats pretty cool. How
Wow, thats pretty cool. How were the European maps? Also, did your GPS come with the European maps preloaded?
USA and EU
Sounds great, I too am planning a trip to Europe this Fall and wondered if you had both sets in the system, just one or the other.
good question

I too would like to know if it is possible to have both maps on the gps (usa and europe). would it take up too much space? would it all fit onto the gps?
yes and yes

answer to fjr15288's question...yes, the original post states he has a nuvi 670. The following is from the 670 product page;
"Go from North America to Europe without loading more maps with the transatlantic nüvi 670. This pocket sized personal travel assistant comes with built-in street maps for both continents, making traveling abroad so easy."
for cheweez78's question, yes it's possible to have both maps, you have one loaded on internal storage (north america) and you can have one on an sd card (europe).

4 Map Sets on 670.
I have the incredible 670. It was bought with USA and Europe pre-loaded onto it.
I installed the Middle East Map set onto it (Saudi, Bahrain, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen).
I have recently added the full South African set of maps to the system and it is fine.
The only strange thing I encountered is when trying to upload the South African mapset it would give me a 'Problem communicating with device' error message.
After a bit of frustration I loaded it onto the SD card and as mentioned, it workds like a dream.
So my GPS has USA, Europe & Mid East loaded onto the unit itself AND South Africa on the SD Card.
Pretty damned nifty.

Did you purchase individual
Did you purchase individual regions or all of europe and all of middle east and all of UAR?
Nuvi670 Europe maps
I am in a similar situation. I will be going to Hungary and Austria in another moth so I went from my Garmin StreetPilot2610 to the Nuvi370. Looked at the 670, but felt the 370 was enough for what I need. Now I'm downloading poi of Hungary and getting all my way points set up. It's nice having everything on one unit.
Question for you though: How much extra room comes on the Nuvi to be able to add countries?

May I ask where you found
May I ask where you found the poi's of Hungary?
All Regions
Hi Gerry,
The USA and Europe were pre-loaded so they are complete areas.
Middle East - I bought the disc which has the complete mapset on it of the entire Middle East and then you can select only those countries or regions you wish to upload.
City Navigator South Africa is the same story - complete mapset and only upload those areas you wish to.
Hope this answers your question.

Gerry, As noted by DeltaSly
Gerry,
As noted by DeltaSly the Nuvi370 has both North America and Europe preloaded. However I am having a hard time pinning down some of the towns in Hungary I plan to visit.
A nice source of POI's can be found on the Garmin website.

370
I have the Nuvi 370 which has the preloaded maps of western Europe and it definitely rocks. I'm in France right now and I wish i bought the travel guide.

Nuvi 360...
Am going to France July of this year on a riverboat tour. Bought not only, Europe, France, and the travel guide SD cards, I think I should be pretty well fixed.
I am constantly amazed with the SD cards, they have everything. I get the magazine FRANCE, and am adding many POI's to the thing, food, wineries, Chateau etc. I only hope the river boat has 110, although I do travel with a 110/220 converter.
