Garmin Updates SD Card Limitations

Found this on another forum.
Perhaps we can add this to Faq's for future referance since the topic comes up often.
So for most Nuvi's it's confirmed they can handle 32GB cards.

Camper/RV 760 32GB2
Garmin Dash Cam 10 and 204 32GB

◦The following devices will still only support an 8GB SD card during the map update with Express: nuvi 295, nuvi 800 series, nuvi 805 series, nuvi 5000, and zumo 665.

2= Garmin supports all speed ratings (including unmarked cards).

3= StreetPilot c300 and i-Series devices do not currently support the SDHC (High Capacity) cards. All other devices will support SDHC (High Capacity) cards and will support up to class 10 cards.

I updated the FAQ page at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/14354 to show 32GB as the new maximum (was 16GB).

Other Limits

Putting a 32 Gig SD card does no good for maps on my 660.

Mapinstaller will only allow a max of 2 Gigs for a map because that is all the unit will handle, even though the map is really broken up into smaller map sections.

Of course there is plenty of room for MP3s, but I think there is a limit on how many it will list.

Don't know what else you could move there.

Thanks for the info. I have already added 16 GB card in my nuvi 3597 but it has not reached the limit on internal disk space yet. When it happens, it should pick up external storage.

I'm guessing this would fall under Nuvi series 1 and accept a 32GB card?

Garmin now confirms that your 2460 Nüvi series unit is compatible with a 32 GB card as is my much older 255W smile

32 GB support

What I find interesting about this is that Garmin sanctioned the 32 GB card support with a FAQ and apparently without changing firmware (at least on most devices). I suppose they may have made changes in some of their desktop software, but many users have been successfully using larger cards in their Garmin devices for a long time.

That's not Nuvi series 1 but Nuvi series. The number 1 is a superscript. All Nuvi series can use 32GB SDHC.
