Updater not smart enough

to delete current map before installing new one. Keep getting message that there is not enough room. You would think that the updater would simply delete the old map, then install the new one.

Maps keep getting larger

The maps keep getting larger and eventually you run out of room on the GPS. If you have an SD card, it would normally load the balance of the map. I think it normally asks, but not sure.

It's also possible, that your SD card is not large enough.

Agreed

I agree with GPSgeek unless something has changed on Garmin's side of things. I've found that both GarminMapUpdater and Garmin Express do know that the old map will be replaced by the new map when doing a map update and determining the space available.

scyntax, you have several Garmin devices and you don't mention if SD cards (and their size) are installed to your devices. It also would be helpful to hear from you whether your map update fails due to an insufficient space problem or if you're being told that you can't install the full map and are being offered a smaller map subset.

Plz report back with the Garmin GPS model giving you this error and the size of the SD card (if any) installed and maybe we can help you get the full map update to the device you're having a problem with.

Also, let us know if you have installed supplemental maps or if past map updates were done with MapInstall or some other non-standard map update procedure, since these Garmin-unexpected procedures can definitely cause the problem you report.
