Garmin Communicator Update

This morning I kept getting a pop-up that said my Garmin Communicator was being blocked. Since I knew that it was not being blocked, I went to Garmin site and saw that update Version 4.2.0.0 was available.

I downloaded the update and double-clicked it. There was no indication that anything was happening except I could see the drive light blinking quite a bit.

After waiting quite a while I looked in Internet Explorer and saw that the plug-in was now gone so I double-clicked the installer file again and this time the installation completed and the Communicator was working.

The update is dated April 3, 2014 so I wonder why the problem just showed up today.

How did you know

You say you know it was not being blocked. What do you mean by that? There are many layers to be traversed in getting from the application to Garmin's servers.

blocked

Because I had followed this troubleshooting guide from Garmin:
Guide

and assumed that was sufficient to determine if the plug in was being blocked.

Then I followed the statement: “If the system requirements are met and the issue still occurs, download and install the plugin manually from the appropriate link”

Same thing

The same thing happened to me several months ago. I am running Chrome instead of IE but Garmin Communicator "being blocked" and correcting the problem was the same.

You know it is corrected when you can download anything like firmware or a map from Garmin.

Luckily, I haven't had the

Luckily, I haven't had the problem yet, but you know what that means. Thanks for the heads up.

Garmin Communicator Blocked

I had the same problem yesterday.
This was caused by my browser (Firefox) preventing pop-ups.
It was simply a matter of permitting pop-ups from the Garmin web site.
Note: The error message is misleading. IMHO it could/should mention that a required pop-up window is being blocked.
