Dual USB Cable

I have never seen one of these cable before, but think I might have to invest in one. There is a mini and a micro on one end and a standard on the other.

Wal-Mart

Got mine from Wal-Mart in the Auto Section. It comes with a 12V car socket that has the USB to plug into. Works great.

Cable

I bought a short 12" cable that goes from the micro for my 855 and adapts it for my 3790 plug.

Think I paid about $ 1.00 or so off eBay some time ago.

Invest?

$6.55 = investing?

Invest

When I read it, I took the word more as a figure of speech and not as it's true meaning such as investing in a home, term certificate etc.

Somewhat similar to this thread, it all depends in the manner in which it's used.

I have one from a previous item (I cannot remember from what)

It is nice when transferring files.

Dual USB cable

I keep one of these in the car, one in the laptop bag, and one in the house. Very useful to have around.

The newer models only have

The newer models only have one slot right? That is, the charging slot is also the data slot?

It Depends

It depends on the Nuvi model. Units with a power cradle will have two USB sockets, one on the power cradle for 12V power (cigarette lighter socket), the other on the Nuvi itself for connecting to PC.

If you have a USB cable that fits the cradle USB socket you can plug it into your PC and have it function without wear on the battery. Just put the Nuvi in the cradle, hook the USB to the cradle socket, then to your PC's USB port. This is good for entering favorites and tweaking settings, or play around with simulation mode.

Dual Mini USB And Micro USB Cable

http://www.microcenter.com/product/397711/6-Foot_USB-USB_Mic...

Although the photographs on the Micro Center webpage don't do this cable justice, it terminates with both a mini USB and a micro USB cable on one end. It is very handy and I do still have some devices that use mini USB.

They make them in several different lengths. One of the things that I find handy is it allows two devices to be charges at once.

I saw..

..one of these at Wal-Mart a while back. Seems to be a nifty idea.

I could be wrong, but I would think attempting to charge two devices at once will drastically slow down charge time. PC USB ports are designed to put out 500 milliamps (.5 Amps). By connecting two devices on one cable the power would be cut in half. I doubt the PC is capable of knowing two devices are present and send .5 amps to both connections since using only 1 wire.

A Garmin wall charger is rated at 1 Amp, far faster charging your Nuvi using the wall charger.
I think the dual USB wire is practical needing only 1 wire for different devices using either mini or micro USB ports.

The picture and the specs "interface" are for a USB to Micro USB only. With this cable there would be no issue with charging two gadgets at the same time as there might be with this cable.

Two Ended Micro and Mini USB

as opposed to this one.

Dual Tip Micro/Mini USB

Dual Tip Doesn't Work

The Dual Tip Mini/Micro will not work on nuvi cradles due to the port being recessed.

I just bought a couple of adapters

I have plenty of mini USB cables, so I just picked up a couple of these to support my micro fleet. Now the reviews say they are iffy, so I'll post back with my win/loss statement after I get 'em. I figured at $1.45 each and free shipping, how much could my test hurt? cool

I have a pair of cables with interchangeable ends that works for me. Quick each changes and the extra ends are clipped in a little bag so I never lose them.

Thought about tips

I thought about getting a cable and interchangeable tips, but just knew I would probably lose one. Since the dual tip won't work with the cradle I ordered a split cable model.
