All Favorites to show on map at one time? Newer Nuvi 2460

I would like to be able to see all (or at least some) of my favorites on the map at one time instead of picking just one from my favorites. Is there any possible way to do this with the Nuvi 2460?_____
Joe

not possible

Garmin has their own algorithm which chooses which favorites to display. There has never been any rhyme or reason (at least that I could tell) as to which favorites are displayed on the screen and there's no setting that controls this either.

Previous nuvis up to maybe the 37xx series displayed pretty much all favorites on the screen, along with the full favorite name (there are some exceptions like the 765 which does NOT show the name) but this has made way for Garmin's "decluttering" map drawing algorithms.

Also know that most of the previous nuvis that did display all favorites with their respective names were older models, like the 3xx/6xx/7x0 series. These units updated the map at 1Hz (one refresh per second). Today's units are more powerful but Garmin decided Framerate Is King so they've tuned the units so the framerate takes away from the map detail...zoom out too far on some of today's lower-end models and you'll get some pretty sparse detail.

66lmt

shows all your custom POI's, only with smaller ICONS, also it seems that Garmin is now trying to give you heads up with construction.

.

Wait a sec...are we talking about favorites/saved places/waypoints or POIs here? There is a distinct difference between them. confused

If the OP meant POIs, then my "Tome Re: Favorites" has nothing at all to do with the discussion. mrgreen

Favorites.... Saved Places

Lets say in a five mile square area i have saved to favorites my parents, cousins, siblings, friends, addresses etc ( I actually have saved campgrounds) and while riding around i would like to see where they all are on the map at once.... that's what i am trying to do

From Garmin Support.

Most automotive devices will only display icons on the map for your saved Favorites or custom Points of Interest (POI) files that you may have installed. To view the custom POI icons, you will need to zoom in the map to 200 feet or closer. The preloaded points of interest (restaurants, hotels, attractions, etc.) will not display icons on the map if they are not also saved favorites.

The device will show the POI icons on the map when it has started moving or is in an active route.

POI icons will NOT display on the map if your map view is set to either North Up or Track Up.

The nuvi 55, 56, 65, 66, 2405, 2407, 2408, 2505, 2507, 2508, 2707, 2708, 3400, 3500, 3507, 3508, zumo 350, zumo 390, zumo 590, dezl 760, and Camper/RV 760. series devices will only display POI icons when you have that map layer selected. For more information on map layers, view the article What are map layers and how do I use them on my automotive device?

I'll start the thinking process. Let's say that I had put in my relatives locations and that my display was set to a five square mile display (although my 765 might show 5 wide and 3 high). Let's say that I could see all of my relatives locations within that window. And, the windows would be changing as I drove around.

Let's say I saw a symbol that said - "Oh there's Cousin Joe's home". What would I want to do? Was that just good info or would I want to navigate to Joe's home.

Remember, if I were stopped someplace and I wanted to see which relatives were around me, I might have done "Where To? > Favorites > Relatives (assuming I have put them into a Relatives category) and gotten a list of up to 50 that were within the a that had me at the center.

Having to be zoomed into a couple of hundred feet to see icons means that one can't see the 5 mile wide view at the same time.

Now some of us like to know - when we are traveling - if there is a Cracker Barrel coming up. We want to be notified maybe 5 miles in advance so we can make the decision whether or not it is time for a meal. We use TourGuides for these kinds of alerts (and really have to use TourGuides anyway because most Cracker Barrels are not located within 30 meter of the road on which we would be traveling).

Knowing what you want to be able to do will move along a discussion of how to make things happen - even if Icons are not a possibility.

There is not a "notification" tab at poi-factory.com such that you could ask to get an e-mail whenever anyone posted to a particular thread.

However, whenever you ask a question, you should expect that you would get responses within a day.

So what I might suggest you do is to take note of the "Title" you yourself assigned to the thread when you asked the question. Then, when you come back to the site, you would look at "Recent Posts" (see upper right pane - under your name) for that title.

In "Recent Posts", the threads are arranged in the date of the last post (most recent posting in any thread appearing first), but if you started the post on the previous day, you will likely find it quickly.

Recent posts works

The "Recent Posts" Tab works great....thanks for the tip
