Hello. Is anyone having a problem with there Garmin Nuvi 3597 not charging. I haven't used it in a while so the battery is probably dead. I've charged it up via the:
- USB cable to the computer
- I hooked up my ipad 4 white connected that plugs into the wall with no luck.
The unit will boot up and show the screen and the version then shut off. I was going to contact Garmin on this but wanted to try everything first.
Any help would greatly be appreciated oh what my next step is. Thanks for your time and help.
Okay this is weird. I have always charged my Garmin Nuvi 3597 with out the power cradle and it worked. As soon as I put the magnetic cradle on and plugged the USB port into my computer its fully charged and working now.
Glad you got it sorted out. You might want to try an AC charger that has 1 A or 2.1 A output. The computer only has .5 A output on a USB port.
I realize this doesn't explain why it worked with the cradle. One difference the cradle makes is that the nuvi boots in navigation mode instead of storage mode. Maybe that requires slightly less power? Or another possibility is that the USB port on the 3597 is going bad, so using the cradle bypassed that port. Now that it is charged, can you plug it into the USB port and get into storage mode?
In any case, a good AC charger/adapter is worth a try.

Is the charger for the 3597 the same as for older units? The mini-USB connector on the 3597 and the 760 look the same.
The 7xx and 3597 both have mini USB ports on the units themselves, but of course the cradles are much different (18 pin Hirose plug on the 7xx cradle, mini USB on the 3597 cradle).
As far as chargers go, I have been able to use the same AC charger/adapters on my 3597 that I use on my 755T. My chargers are all rated at 1.0 or 2.1 A.
The only AC charger/adapter I've ever owned is from my orginal Nuvi 350. It's worked with all my other Nuvi models. In some cases, of course, I need to put the Nuvi in it's cradle in order to attach the charger.
