Searching for POI's

I have a lot of POIs in different categories. Is there a way to search for a certain POI in a categorie?

spell

does the unit let you start typing in the name of the desired POI?

Yes it does.

But when I type the city where the POI is there is no result.

POI Search

If you know the name of the city where the POI is, use the Search Near Function and type in the City name then go to Categories, and get your POI file you want to search.

How are you searching?

I don't see a way to search Custom POIs (those loaded by you with POI Loader) by City, so I think you're searching by tapping WhereTo/PointsOfInterest. This will only search POIs built into your current map.

To search your Custom POIs, you need to tap WhereTo/Extras. On my nuvis, when doing this, I'm not given the ability to choose a city. It is possible to search custom POIs by spelling though.

[Update] Wow, live and learn. I just read phranc's reply and gave it a test. Yes indeed, it is possible to use the "Near" feature to search both built-in and Custom POIs by this method.

Tap WhereTo, then Near, then A Different City, then Save, then type and choose a city, then Done, then back out and select Extras. Now you can use the Spell function to search your Custom POIs in the new city that can be thousands of miles from your current location. Note that different models (especially older nuvis vs. newer nuvis) have slightly different ways to get to the Near option--in the newer nuvis, you may need to tap the three horizontal lines icon to be offered the "Near" button.

A power cycling of the nuvi will erase the Saved "Near" location and return to searching for the nearest POIs with respect to your current location.

Thanks, phranc!

You can clear the Search Near by just repeating Search Near and use Near My Location. That is the default.
