Google Maps?

Anyone else having problems with Classic or New Google maps?

No send to GPS option available.

Classic Google Maps no

Classic Google Maps no longer supports send to GPS, only send to CAR according to their product manager.

New Google Maps does not support send to anything...

Way to go Google.
Google maps was the ONLY reason I installed Google Chrome on my laptop. Now it's going to be deleted and another browser installed.

Guess I'll stop using Google maps altogether and use MapQuest or something else. Haven't tried MapQuest in ages, wonder if it still sends to GPS.

Google maps killed Garmin

Google maps killed Garmin Smartphone app feature as well. Before you could send any address from Google map to Smartphone Link app for navigation but not any more.
Looks like Garmin just gave up on fixing it.

Why Garmin?

Why would you expect Garmin to be able to fix a feature that Google took away in their product?

Why would you think Garmin has to fix the problem. They didn't cause it. surprised

Google Maps

You can send to a few cars now, but so far they don't have the device link fixed.

Yes, but....

And if you read the link you posted it shows you can select "Send to GPS Device" but that is not the case if you are actually using the product. No GPS device is shown.

Further, the link states that the Classic maps will be unavailable in the near future being replaced by the New maps.

And presumably, the send option will only be available to registered users, as further stated. It seems that whatever CAR option you select now will be embedded in your account settings, and not available to change at the map level but only thru an account settings modification.

When this first came out, and the classic google map was working, I registered my Garmin Device in my account. It doesn't show now on the Classic Map. I saw the email and car link when I first looked last night. There was no device offered. After a little surfing I looked back and only the email was offered. They may be working on it, we can hope. I am going to hook my device up today, I hope anyway for today is cleaning day, and see if when the device is hooked up if there is anything different.

I haven't given up on the New Google Maps but they are sure slow about getting things to work.

Mapquest here I come

Mapquest still can send to devices, so I've changed my bookmarks. Google just keeps giving me more reasons to abandon them...

Been re-acquainting myself

Been re-acquainting myself with MapQuest since I started this thread.

What I don't like is that when you find the location and select SEND to GPS you have a choice of ROUTE or WAYPOINT. Ok. But when you choose WAYPOINT it sends a whole bunch of locations you don't want. Then you have to weed out the GPX file.

Am I missing something?

Will try

I don't remember ever using Mapquest. I will look at that.

EDIT: Just looked at Mapquest. There is a learning curve and I can not find send to:

If

If you have an address entered in Mapquest:

- press Search
- when search location is found - press SEND in upper right of map screen
- Send menu will read - e-mail - mobile - facebook - car - Garmin GPS.
- select Garmin GPS

Same process holds true if you enter multiple addresses and select "Get Directions"

Mapquest

@mgarledge ... A while back I wrote a post explaining how to create a route in Mapquest and send it to a Garmin device. Thought you might find it helpful:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39727?page=0#comment-325535.

You can also save a list of favorites in Mapquest and send them to the nuvi. To save a favorite, just look something up (address, a place, etc.), then click on its little marker on the map and select "Save", "Favorites". You will get extra tabs in the left pane, one tab for the map search, the other for favorites. So you can switch back and forth to look up new locations and save as a favorite. Once your list is complete, just click on the Favorites tab and send to the Garmin the same way you do with routes.

The link is very good information. It will help a lot.

Appreciate all the help. I didn't have my GPS hooked up when I was looking at it. I only was offered e-mail and Facebook. Will have to try again with the unit plugged in. Thanks for the help.
