Please help; How to restore corrupted 1300

I have a nuvi 1300 which lost maps for no apparent reason.
I connect with a USB cable and it connects as drive F:\.

I only see the following and files(no map file??):
.System\
\Diag
\Logs
\sqlite
GPX\
Curretn.gpx

\Archive\593.gpx

Total size of all these folders is about 5.33 MB.

Properties for F drive show as follows:
Used Space; 1.60 GB
Free Space: 165 MB
Capacity : 1.76 GB

I am suspecting there is a hidden partition for restoring.
Can somebody help to restore please?

1st question

Is it a 1300 or 1300LM?

The maps may have been moved to an SD card which was taken out of the unit. If you have had the unit since the last maps, then put the old SD card back in. If you just recently picked up the unit, check to see if it is an LM model and, if so buy a 4GB micro SD and then update the maps.

Lost

Are you saying that you DO NOT have the map showing on the screen when you tap the map icon???

You probably do not see the actual map files since they may be or are hidden in the system folder. My guess!

Which Model ?

Like Box Car asked... is it a 1300 or a 1300LM? My additional question... "is it a 1300WT"?

Until we know those answers, it's hard to troubleshoot your problem.

Maps on my 2595 are in the .system folder.

Tell us what they are and their size, please.

Since you imply that you had maps and then lost them, tell us what you have recently done with your unit.

Have you made a backup? if not, then when your problem is solved, read and follow instructions in:
Backing Up Your GPS (Garmin) {G}
Backup Using ISO File {G}

I agree

I like your thought. Since the OP states that the device currently has 1.60GB of the drive's 1.76GB in use, it seems to me that there is a City Navigator map (not the latest full North America version, but a smaller subset like "Lower 48" or something--or an older map). But Boxcar's thought of the map having been installed to a SD card, then the card being removed which lost the map, is well worth answering as well.

If there are map files on the nuvi, then there should be map files seen in the nuvi's internal storage. If not seen and if a Windows PC user, make sure that you've done each of the three items (Steps 4, 5, and 6 under PC) of the faq:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393

The map files you're looking for are 2-4 files named gmapprom.img, gmapprom.unl and possibly gmapprom.sum and gmapprom.gma. The .img file will be the big one, and as already stated, unless the map was installed to a SD card, the files will be in the .system folder.

It appears that step 6 from the above faq has been done since .system is seen but I wonder about steps 4 and 5.

Just to be on the safe side, there is also the question of whether the City Navigator is there on the nuvi but has simply been unchecked. I'm not sure how it's found on the 1300, but it's probably either by tapping Tools/Settings/Map/MapInfo or it's Tools/MyMaps. Go to the Map page and see if City Navigator is listed but unchecked. If so, checking City Navigator will return the map display to the device.

There's one further thought: we're all assuming here that the map that's gone is City Navigator North America and that it was installed or updated by Garmin either on the original device or updated through Garmin Express or GarminMapUpdater. If the map was updated by another means, it may not have the unlock code file needed to prevent map piracy. All in all, we need a response from the OP before proceeding.

the 1300

The 1300 is listed as having only the lower 48 which would account for a smaller map.

nuvi

Do a hard reboot. Backup everything, then reinstall the maps. Worked for me.

how long ...

How long have you had the GPS? And where did you buy it?

Perhaps if you go back to the seller, they might be able to help you.

If not, contact Garmin tech support and plead your case. They would be able to look up the serial number and tell you the particulars about your GPS ... and might even help you.

Garmin 205, 260W, 1450LMT, 2460LMT, HEREwego for iPhone ... all still mapping strong.
