US Maps on foreign Nuvis

Just curious if you could load US maps onto a Nuvi model only available in Asia. For example the Nuvi 3592 sold in Asia is available with their integrated drive recorder, or dash cam. Garmin tells me no idea when or it it will! Be sold here. IMHO, this is.a great feature whose time is come and garmin is losing out on a lucrative income stream by not moving it to the US MARKET. TheY already have the 2798, a 7" nuvi with a rear camera. How much more would it take to adapt their IDR to this model. Better yet, if you were able to retrofit the IDR to existing 7" nuvis with a firmware update!

Should be OK

You can buy a US Map on memory card and pop it in, and it should show up as a selectable choice in the settings... or if you have enough space, it would also work if installed to the device memory and be selectable in settings.

Should work

I can purchase Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, etc maps for my North American Nuvi, so I don't see why couldn't purchase North America for the Asia model.

If you purchase a unit overseas you need to be certain it has been type accepted by the FCC. If it lacks an FCC number it could be seized by customs as it is illegal to import devices that lack a registration number.

SG/MAL

The maps can be installed on a SG/MAL (Singapore/Malasya) without issue. The JCV file for the US maps however may not function on a SG/MAL device as there are firmware differences related to the JCV function between the SG/MAL and US devices.

Other Asian devices may or may not have this issue, but it may be moot in any event. JCV files are one of the files that are not included with one-time or lifetime map updates purchased separately, correct?
