Audio Mixer on Nuvi 2597

The Audio Mixer is accessed from the Master Volume screen by selecting the wrench in the upper left corner of the screen. I had expected this to change the treble or bass of the speaker, but if the Navigation bar is moved from its far right position it does nothing but reduce the volume. Has anyone experienced anything different? Or is this just another Garmin non-feature feature.

When I touch the wrench from master volume I see Automatic volume and this is what Garmin supports says about it .

What is Automatic Volume?

10/11/2013 Automatic Volume uses ambient noise in the car to determine the appropriate volume level for the device's audio. To enable Automatic Volume:

1. Touch Volume 2. Touch the wrench icon in the upper-left 3. Touch Automatic Volume Some devices will require you to select Enabled or Disabled then Save

4. Touch and hold the back button to return to the main menu

The device will now automatically adjust the volume as needed based on ambient noise. Repeat the above steps to disable Automatic Volume and adjust volume levels manually.

Automatic volume is available on Bluetooth-capable models in the following series:

nuvi 2405 series nuvi 2407 series nuvi 2408 series nuvi 2505 series nuvi 2507 series nuvi 2508 series nuvi 2707 series nuvi 2708 series nuvi 3400 series nuvi 3500 series nuvi 3507 series nuvi 3508 series dezl 760 RV 760 Camper 760

The selection for Automatic Volume is on the same screen as the Audio Mixer selection. Selecting Audio Mixer brings up another screen with two slider bars, one for Navigation and another for Phone. I have the latest firmware and have done a hard reset. I wonder why we are different.

Volume

I don't have my phone connected to the GPS right now. That may be the difference. All I see is the place to put check mark in Automatic volume. Only one slider on screen.

.

Yes. The Audio Mixer is for adjusting the volume for navigation and BT linked phone independently. The double slide bars show up only if a BT phone is linked.

I found this feature most welcome. I have the master with automatic volume control on at 100%, navigation <40% and phone at 100%.

You can also mute the navigation without affecting the BT phone volume.

P.S. The year-2012 models have the same features already.

Now I Understand.

It has nothing to do with what I expected. At one time I had moved the Navigation slider on the Audio Mixer to about half way and then had to adjust the Master Volume to a higher value in order to hear the unit. I had a traffic announcement come through that I thought would break the speaker. Apparently traffic information reverts back to the Master Volume. I think I will leave the Navigation slider at its max position and use Master Volume to control volume. I rarely use the phone. It would be nice if Garmin would explain the Audio Mixer in the manual.
