Linux and Extra poi editor

Hallo, i have some questions about some stuff again.

I tried to run extra poi editor in my linux-mint computor, i installed Wine but i could not get EPE to work.
My skills about this things are low so instead of invent the wheel again i ask if there is someone around here that gets EPE to work wit Wine or is it a dead end?

Next question: Does anybody now about other software for linux that can be used for garmin and producing poifiles for garmin?

best regards jocke

I don't believe Wine has the

I don't believe Wine has the visual basic runtime library that EPE needs, which is why it doesn't work. It is possible to install Visual Basic 6.0 onto Wine (source: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId...), so it stands to reason you should be able to install the runtime library into Wine as well.

In addition to the issue of running under Linux,

there is a separate problem. According to other postings here, EPE makes a call to a Google API that Google has discontinued. As a consequence, EPE will no longer work under *any* operating system.

Before you spend much time trying to cope with running EPE under Linux, you might want to investigate whether or not anyone has managed to find a way around the problem with Google.

Thanks Tom, EPE still works for me with my windows8.1 computor.. at least it did one week ago. maybe there is something different in sweden.

About to run it with Linux is an idea i have, nothing important but fun if it had work and easier for me to organize all stuff about epe and my garmin in the computor my kids dont like.

EPE will no longer geocode using the Google API, but other than that one issue here is nothing wrong with the program.

EPE Does still work great!

I also use EPE all the time.. Even the batch reverse Geocoding still works.. I just find a different way now to get the Cord, Plug them in EPE and then do a reverse Geocoding to get the City, state and zip for me without having to type in the info. Only the Desc and Address is all I need to type (also phone number if I have it)

I could not do the Offbeat file without it!
