Garmin Map Updater - Current Version

Where can we find the current version of Garmin Map Updater (the reliable software that predates Garmin Express).

The most current version that I have is v 3.1.20 and couldn't find anything on the Garmin website, but I recall they have it in an unadvertised location.

Latest Version

When you click on the link choose save rather than run. It's an executable file and maybe in the future will not be available. Save it to a folder of your choice on your PC then create a shortcut to it so you can use it for upcoming map updates.

You and many other people are unable to use Garmin Express, perhaps someday they'll get it right. Until they do, that's probably why we are still able to use the functional MapUpdater.

Just Downloaded it!

Thanks for the link! I just downloaded Garmin Map Updater to the new W7 Pro laptop and it works perfectly. Maybe someday, I'll figure out how to load map updates to the GPS AND computer using Garmin Express.

Thanks to all

Garmin Express worked for one of my GPS, but not on another. Don't see why there's a difference.

Loading maps to PC

Neither GE or map updater have the option to load to computer any more. Is this correct or is there something wrong at my end.

Yes, you are correct. Those children at Garmin need to be replaced by someone who knows what they are doing. It's like this about every other time, but this time, they have gotten the whole crowd upset. Way to go Garmin!

TomTom is looking good

The maps wont load to the computer, the nuvi wont route correctly since they changed the map supplier to Navteq, life time traffic wont work, in Christchurch there are still some 250 - 300 closed roads or road works and traffic shows none of them.

Garmin is hopeless, I have owned a Garmin since 1999, they were better back then than they are now. I can no longer recommend Garmin.

I'm told that Garmin software designers received a contract from the federal government to come up with the next air traffic control system. shock

According to the laws of aerodynamics, bumblebees cannot fly. But the bumblebees, not knowing the laws of aerodynamics, go ahead and fly anyway...

Another great decision

Sounds like a good reason not to fly, could end up anywhere.

2015.10 to Streetpilot 2830

I don't use Garmin Express. I install the maps to Mapsource and make my own.

Free maps

I have gone to our local free maps, but the only problem is that when searching we need to enter everything in capital letters. The work round for this is to write a new keyboard file. Help is available at http://nzopengps.org/ but there are differences in each nuvi model so it's not as straight forward as I would like.

The other option is to go to Open Street Map, but OSM have many mistakes but route quite well. The main problem is OSM have lots of gravel roads marked as sealed roads, in one case it takes you through a 4wd track with fords, which is can be a bit of a problem when towing a 8 metre (26 foot) caravan.

I just wish Garmin would get their act together.
