Frozen Garmin Nuvi 50LM

I have the same problem as another individual in a previous forum (mskarissamarie - 08/10/2012). Namely that my Garmin Nuvi 50LM is frozen at the GARMIN screen. Yes - I have attempted to do the Hard Reset. Here are the other points of note.... I can hold down the power button for a period of time and the unit will go "off". I can turn it "on" - and even if I hold my finger in the lower right hand corner - the only thing that comes up is the GARMIN screen (I've tried it many times with my finger in slightly different spots).
I tried plugging it into my computer, but the computer never recognizes it's existence. I suspect this is exactly the same problem that mskaissamarie had and was never resolved until he/she cracked the screen by squeezing the corner too hard. Anyone have any ideas. Is there a physical hard reset button located somewhere?
one thing to try
If the system freezes with the screen lit, try leaving it on and let the battery drain. Once the battery is drained, charging it when off and then turning it on will also do a hard reset.

Wife had the same problem
Wife had the same problem with her's while she was in Florida. Could not walk her through the procedure over the phone and had her call Garmin TS. They had her go through some procedure and took care of the problem in about 20 minutes.
Might be less hassle to talk to them.
I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.
