poi file verifier

Where, if possible, can I download a copy of poi file verifier? I had some computer problems and lost mine. None of the links on the forum work.

Backup?

External USB drives are so cheap now that I wonder why everyone now everyone does not have one.

Although I use a paid version of Macrium Reflect (to allow for incremental backup), there is a free version that is highly recommended by the computer guru I follow.

I also use Carbonite to back up data files and that would include program downloads as well as documents and pictures.

I hope you and everyone else reading this thread will reconsider their backup strategy and do a full image of their computer this week.

I know

I know all about Macrim Reflect and backing up files and I also could probably do a windows restore to an earlier time but I made some time consuming major changes on my hard drive and hadn't done a backup yet when I had the glitch happen, so I don't want to have to undo my changes. I too backup five computers on two different external drives, the glitch just happened at the wrong time. So you are preaching to the chorus. I do have an install for poi file verifier but I think the setup.exe is trying to go to a none existent site to download some files.

Good for you

Sometimes it is nice to preach to the choir because other people may join us.

A currently nonexistent site won't be solved by backups.

good news, for me anyway

I found a poi file verifier setup.exe on another drive that must be a self extracting zip. It extracted files to a temporary folder and did an install, it works fine. That software is getting hard to come by, I sure couldn't find it online anywhere.

POI Verifier

The author of this software no longer supports this program and has taken it of of sites where he formerly offered it. He did this several years ago in response to user criticism of his efforts, our loss. It is possible you can undelete the file, not the installed program, if you deleted the installation file recently. There is a freeware program that will find and undelete files. I think the name of the program is"Undelete". Search with Google for it.Try "undeletr freeware or similar combinations. I have a copy of the original installation file and two updates that I would be willing to share. I will need to make sure they work.

I didn't lose the program install I lost the installed program, which I did find a copy of an install on another drive. So all is fine in Wisconsin. Which versions do you have? The one I found I have is 1.0.0.7, but there are probably newer versions.

BTW: The best file recovery software I have used is called "recuva" and is free. There is also a portable version that installs on a memory stick which is how they recommend to run it. You never want to run recovery software on the same drive as the deleted files.

poi test

use Google Earth to test kml files.
It will tell you what line needs to be corrected using notepad. Use go to line number and check for typo's
