I had not noticed until today, but both my 2455 and 2595 give me a visual indication of the fact that they are in MS mode.
When in MS mode, the computer icon on the nuvi screen is is white. If I go to the "Diagnostics Page" by way of either the volume screen or the speedometer button and change these devices back to MTP mode, the computer icon appears in yellow when the device is attached to the computer.
Another indication is that in MTP mode, the computer does not pop up the dialog asking what I want to do with the just attached device.
Another indication is that in MTP mode, the "safely disconnect" tray icon does not show the device as removable.
