OK i much prefer the favorites as to having to go into extras.

Is there any way to have the Garmin load favorites from an SD card and have them show as favorites not as extras ?

There is a limit (maybe 1000 Favorites) allowed in you nuvi. My Custom POIs now total a tad under 200,000 locations. If you have lots of Custom POIs, you'll exceed your Favorites max in no time at all.

I believe (but accept this only if someone confirms it) that rather than using POI Loader to load your custom POIs that copying the gpx version of a Custom POI directly to the nuvi will put the locations in the gpx file into your Favorites.

It should work as long as

It should work as long as the file is renamed "temp.gpx" so it will load in on boot. Not recommended however simply because of the limitation on the total number of favorites that the nüvi has.

To help us understand how to help you, try to explain to us why you would rather use Favorites rather than Extras - Custom POIs.

Assuming you still have a 255, it can hold 500 favorites.

Do you prefer favorites because you can get to them quicker? What else?

work around

Just a suggestion. Make a copy of your current.gpx file on the GPS.Rename to My Favorites.gpx.
Run Poi Loader and select the SD card for the file to load to.
See (link no longer available) to keep from being asked to transfer file from SD card to GPS.
Yes you are still using custom pois but you have a file with your favorites on SD card that you now can set up for alerts.
Now you can delete the favorites from the GPS and install new ones.
When ever you want use Extra Poi Editor http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor .Make copy of any new favorites you have added to current.gpx on GPS.Using the merge file option on EPE combine the ones on the SD card with the added ones on the GPS.
Install back to SD card.

How about

Is it possible to have several SD cards with a different group on each card?

Not sure

If I remember correct when I used MapSource and sent to device you could check the send to favorites and send the gpx file to the gps as favorites. You can put all your gpx files in one folder then open it in MapSource and send them to favorites.

I think they also are sent to favorites when using BaseCamp and send to device.

Worth a try.

On my 765T, I took an old test set of Favorites I had named currenta.gpx and put them on my SD card. Safely disconnecting and firing up the nuvi got nothing. I then created a folder on the SD card named Garmin and put currenta.gpx there. Safely disconnecting and firing up the nuvi got nothing. Then, put currenta.gpx into a folder named Garmin/GPX on my SD card, safely disconnected and success.
