Went to Garmin site Registered it.
Then started the Garmin express v2.2.21 several different ways and times. Gets about ½ way through and gets the following error message----- Service ‘Garmin Core Update Service’(Garmin Core Update Service) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services.

any ideas what I can to? confused

What to do? -- Four things

1) Uninstall Garmin Express.

2) Install and use WebUpdater for all but map updates:

http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

You can either watch for posts here at The Factory to look for updates available--or just run WebUpdater every now and then.

3) Download GarminMapUpdater for your upcoming map updates (the current City Navigator North America NT is 2014.20):

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/40555

Run GarminMapUpdater to update your map. Keep the GarminMapUpdater on your computer and use it for future map updates.

4) Monitor the posts here at The Factory to see when new firmware updates and map updates are available for your nuvi.

In the meantime, check out the faqs and such here at The Factory, make a backup on your computer of the files on your nuvi--and if you want Custom POIs, install POI Loader to your computer. Keep posting and you'll earn your windmill soon which will entitle you to download the redlight and speed camera custom POI files.

Uninstall Garmin Express = BINGO!!!

Politicians and Diapers must be changed often for the exact same reason...

thanks

For some reason I cant uninstall G express but that's OK for now
I did install web updater and it looked like it updated then I updated many things in window with boxes.
I had to restart device so I am sure it did something.
Started web updater again and all the updates I checked off are gone so it did that update.

How do I see if software and maps are actually updated?
I go to settins-map&vehicle-my maps (installed maps) and it says CN North America NY 2013.30
SO it looks like I don't have the 2014.20

I go to settings-Device-about
Doftware 3.80
Audio version 1.20
Text Version 3.80
GPS Firmware 3.03.04
FMI 3.0
But I hve no idea if any of them are up to date

thanks for your help

You'll

You'll need to use MapUpdater to install the map update. Webupdater only updates firmware and other software items, not maps.

I was disappointed I could not update till Garmin support returned my message maybe Monday.
I a delighted you have been able to work me through this today. Have a great weekend

Great news on WebUpdater and I expect you'll have success with GarminMapUpdater as well. Report back to us! Since your nuvi has an older map, the map update is definitely worth it.

It may well be that your Garmin Core Services error may be related to your inability to normally uninstall Garmin Express. You may want to look into Revo Uninstaller and see if that can uninstall your problem. If not, a call and complaint to Garmin Customer Service is in order.

There should be no problem with updating your map (using GarminMapUpdater) while Garmin Express is still on your computer. The problem with keeping a nonfunctional Garmin Express is that the program is always using some resources on your computer and giving you no benefit.

PS--there may be a time when Garmin Express works well for everyone--and if/when Garmin requires Garmin Express to do updates--but we're not there yet and my suggestion to you is to avoid Garmin Express until the company has its problems worked out.
