Model number incomplete?

Okay, so this happened to me over a year ago, but I'm just now going to ask about it. I was hoping it would fix itself or SOMETHING, but nothing has happened.

I was using LifetimeUpdater to update my maps on my Nuvi 3760 (I also bought my wife one). After the maps were installing, the program stated there was an error. When I disconnected my map unit and rebooted, the maps actually were installed. However, ever since then, my model number in the unit has changed from 3760 to "37xx". Internally and externally, all Garmin programs read the unit with that model number. Navigation and everything works fine, but there are 2 noticeable changes:
1) The Bluetooth functionality is gone. The icon isn't even in the settings (I never used this anyway).
2) While navigating without a destination, the top bar will always display the current street I am driving on. Previously, it would tell me what street is coming up next, but not anymore.
So my question is, can this be fixed at this point? Can I restore my functionality on the unit? I had not made a backup prior to that time.
Thanks for any help!

Firmware updates

My first thing to do would be to use Webupdater and make sure you have the latest firmware updates. Sometimes mapupdates assume you are using the latest firmware.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, without a backup, you will probably have to call/email Garmin.

Actually

Actually I'd suggest you contact Garmin FIRST.

Although there is probably no harm in installing new firmware on a 37xx when you know you have a 3760, there have been cases where installing the wrong version of firmware on a device has made it a brick. Also to update maps the process will now force a firmware update, so getting the xx issue cleared up should be done before hand.

You probably lost the bluetooth function since the Nuvi doesn't see you have a 3760. The 60 indicates a bluetooth model.

Firmware

I have kept my firmware (and all other files) up to date and it has never updated the model. To be honest, I don't care enough to contact Garmin about it...to be honest, it may not help any based on what I hear on this forum smile Thank you for your suggestions!

try Garmin

I updated firmware a few time and there never was a change of model number. It all sounds strange, as this kind of change will indicate that you have now "generic" firmware for 37 series of models. But how it get there it's strange.

I wold be with t923347 on this. It's better to contact Garmin and clear this issue. So far it may work, but it may case problems in the future. Just send Garmin email and explain situation, instead of taking day off to get them on the phone. If they say it's no issue than just go with it. But they may send you instruction how to get this issue resolved. And if they do share with us what they tell you to do, please.

Another Check

You say your wife also has a 3760, is hers functioning properly?

If both have all current updates, compare the files and see if they match, especially the firmware which is the GUPDATE.GCD in the system folder.
Also check the firmware & software versions between the two units and see if they match in the about screen.

If contacting Garmin my preference would be to call rather than Email, I think you'd get better results although it may be inconvenient for you.

On-line chat

I used on-line chat once in a while.

Much less wait and I can transmit data such as GPS coordinates accurately.

The support people have been courteous and knowledgeable.

I would call Garmin

Based on your description it sounds like it got a corrupted map. Its been over 1 year so you can't get the same map if you go to "my garmin". The map won't be there.

They mkay put the map in your account and allow you to install it again. They allowed that for me once and my map was about 1 1/2 tears old.

I always believed that after a year you couldn't download the map again but using Garmin Express 2.3.8.0 (now updated to 2.3.9.0), I was offered a re-download of 2012.10 maps to my Nuvi 760 yesterday. Those maps were first installed in June 2011. question

It seems Garmin Express is the exception to the 1 year expiration ability to download prior version maps.

I just signed into my Garmin account and went to Manage Maps. ALL THE MAPS over 1 year old show EXPIRED (with date) and cannot be downloaded.

Have you actually attempted to download it or does it just make the offer and when you actually try to download it won't. I have no faith in Garmin Express. sad
