FORMATTED MY NUVI 1450 LMT TRYING TO GET REPORTS - I DID BACK IT UP HOWEVER....
10 years
|
My computer is not recognizing my Garmin 1450 LMT GPS when I plug my USB cord in. So I cannot copy the files back to the device. When I turn on the device I just get the garmin logo screen and thats all... None of the resets are working - the device is literally blank...
Garmin CS is saying they will give me $150 credit towards a new unit because it is "defective"???? I do not believe that is the case. It is a lazy way out. Any business that takes 2-3 days to answer a simple question obviously is extremely busy dealing with damage control. I am sick of buying units every year and a half. My next course of action is to do a master reset (taking out the battery, reinserting etc. which I dont even know if it will work because the normal way isnt working)? Then copy the "backup" files to the unit. So, I really need:
A) for my computer to recognize the USB Device / Drive
B) to transfer the files back to Nuvi Drive
C) to transfer the files to the second drive (Garmin uses 2 drives)
Can someone please help me out here? My Garmin is registered with Garmin. It is not a stolen device which I see may be an issue on here but I am not asking for any files so it shouldn't be an issue for anyone to give me useful feedback. I have spent the last two nights trying to figure this out and enough is enough.
Thank you in advance. Kyle

Good luck
Welcome to The Factory.
If your computer doesn't see the nuvi and you've ruled out a bad cable and are using a direct USB socket (try those at the back of the computer, if there), then try an internet search for GarminCure3. I've never needed it but my reading suggests that it's a solution to get the nuvi recognized by a computer allowing you to restore your backup files. It does appear to be a tricky procedure getting to pre-boot mode, etc. but it's worth a try. In any event, I expect you've learned to triple check just which drive you're planning to format and that formatting a nuvi is going to create a problem.
I wouldn't bite on the $150 credit even though that's a sizeable sum. The issue I expect is that the credit would apply to a future purchase at list price directly from Garmin--and you might do as well buying a new nuvi on Amazon or some such site without the $150 credit.
Help
Maybe some of the info on GPS Passion will help you.

Trying to find the Garmin3 file is not easy, but I think this is it:

Here is a website partially in English, the important parts and partially in Polish for instructions.

If in fact your Nuvi is bricked not all hope is lost.
Years ago I bricked a Nuvi 670, not by doing a format, but something got corrupted and I could not get the Nuvi to be recognized by the PC to copy files back. Believe me, I tried everyting with no luck. I did use Garmin Cure3 and I got it working again. I do remember it was a bit of a complicated procedure but it did work.
Here is a link that may be of help to you.
