Nuvi 2595 LMT not quite connecting to PC

Dear ol' Dad just picked up a new 2595 from Costco and brought it over for me to do all of the updates, etc. for it. First thing I noticed was that it was set up in a different language, and I don't think it was even a Latin-based one. Lots of "fun" getting it set back to English.

So after that, I try to connect it to my PC but it doesn't quite work, it connects but doesn't mount it as a volume like my Nuvi 265WT. I tried a couple of different cables, USB ports, etc. but it won't mount. The unit goes into "mass storage mode" with the picture of a cable connected to a PC and I get the rising two-tone USB connection sound when I connect it and the falling two-tone USB disconnection sound when I disconnect the GPS, but Garmin Express, WebUpdater, etc. do not see the device and I don't see it mounted in the volume list under "My Computer" (Windows XP Pro). Meanwhile, my own Nuvi 265WT mounts just fine.

Am I missing something here or does he need to exchange the unit? I wanted to get a second opinion before I tell him to take it back.

Thanks!

Switch nuvi modes

You likely need to switch the nuvi from MTP to MS:

Thanks!

Yup, that was the problem. I also noticed that the connection picture is now grey instead of amber like it was before.

Since there appear to be issues with negotiating the proper connection mode, I think it would be better if that feature were turned off by default. The old method works just fine.

Many thanks for the heads-up.

Had the same issue

Mine wouldn't connect either until I changed the setting from MTP.
