Can a proximity alert be increased?
When we are traveling 65-70 miles an hour the proximity alerts do not activate far enough in advance.
Most of the times I have found that they active when the exit has passed or I am right at the exit which makes a safe exit impossible.
As a result most proxity alerts are use less.
Can the distance from an exit or the establiment be increased?
Please advise,
Thanks,
Dwight
.
Proximity alert for what?
That makes a difference.
If you run POI Loader in MANUAL MODE instead of EXPRESS MODE, you can set whatever distance you want for Custom POIs.

As MM has asked, what file is giving you problems? Sounds like it is the Rest Areas files but it would help to know exactly which ones are giving you a problem.
We will assume that you are using "along the route" proximity alerts (as opposed to TourGuide "radius" alerts.
MM has suggested you should be using "manual" mode of POI Loader, but you do need to use distance alerts rather than something like a "redlight" keyword (had to mention this because your comment concerning speed made me wonder).
In using Manual mode of POI Loader, you select "This file contains proximity alert points" and then "Alert whenever you get close to a point" and then put in some distance like 5280 (for an alert of a mile).
Alternatively, David has linked you to another technique for setting proximity distince alerts (and it is the one I use)
In case we have not correctly understood your problem, give us some more information about the files involved and how you established your current proximity alerts.
In case it matters
Bohica's profile states the following GPS ownership:
GPS Brand Rand McNally
GPS Models RVND 7710

If this is the GPS in question, I wonder if POI Loader or ExtraPOI Editor replies are going to help.

It reminds me (before I learned to hide four forums here) of a time when I gave PC instructions to a person posting on the Mac forum.
Been there, done that.

I take it that you are using CSV files. If you convert those files to GPX, then you can set both the distance and speed alerts for each entry. That way you can have Interstate exit alerts set for 1/2 mile and the one for the Dairy Queen in town at 500 feet.
I use GeePeeEx to build my POI files but it does have a few drawbacks. It isn't free and it won't properly load files created using other programs. But it is easier to use than any of the free programs I've found.
Ark!
