Nuvi 2595 LMT

Hello, Is it possible to load POI's using POI Loader on the model 2595 ? Have a feeling it's not possible. Anybody know of a work around possibly? Is there a list somewhere that has all the models (especially the new ones) that POI Loader works with?

Thanks
Robert in Phoenix

All nuvis

All nuvi models can use POI Loader to load custom POIs, whether they are csv or gpx files. Custom icons can be added, if desired. When using a PC, adding version 14.0.1 of sox.exe will also let custom audio wav file alerts to be added. Custom audio wav files can be added with Macs as well without the need for sox.

If you can't get POI Loader to work with a 2595, let us know where your problems arise.

2595 / POI Loader

OK thats good news. This morning the 2595 would not turn no matter what or how I pressed the power button, short/shorter/long/longer it refuses to turn on. Have had it for 2 days. Should have done my homework first. I tried a TomTom, a Magellan, but went back to Garmin. A long time user of their product. Plus COSTCO had them for $179. Never had a GPS with all those features. Taking it back to the store later. Not sure if I will try a second one. I have a 750, 255W both work fine. But no features. What do you think.?

My thought is a weak battery. Give the GPS an overnight charge with a computer USB or other USB port (making sure the port stays on and the computer doesn't go to sleep) or a couple hours of charge with the nuvi's power cord using a cigarette lighter socket (again, making sure the socket doesn't go dead during the charge as happens with many vehicles when the engine is turned off).

If using a cigarette lighter socket, make sure the vehicle's socket is live (no dead fuse) and that the nuvi power cord also doesn't have a blown fuse.

Your new nuvi most likely has a map update that can be installed. Do NOT attempt a map update until you're sure you have a fully charged battery.

With your username, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that you have some test equipment, power sources and spare fuses around the shack to charge your nuvi wink

Try connecting it back to the computer and let it charge for a while. Not sure about your model. If not careful the unit will go in standby mode when you disconnect and you put it away thinking it was off.

If you stay with Garmin see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for custom pois.

Charging Etc.

Yes it was in the truck overnight and the socket is hot. The Garmin charger/receiver unit has a LED on it also. My luck with GPS's lately is bad. I'll go get it and give it a second chance. The other day when Biden left from Phoenix, the Aircraft must have had it's ECM active. As a radar sweep was heard thru the computer speakers. After that most of my toys got reset. Cell phone wasn't affected. Anyway sliding off target. What is the next best model from the 2595 someone can recommend?

It depends on what features you want. I just purchased the 2597 and very well pleased with it.See https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/cOnTheRoad-cAutomotive-p1.ht... and pick the features you are looking for on the left of the screen. That will narrow it down some.

Biggest gripe

The long power on problem is the biggest gripe I have with my 2595. It seems to happen when I do a single, quick click of the power button that puts the unit to sleep. Like a teenager, it can be hard to rouse.

Usually a short click will wake the unit up. Other times it takes a long press. When I have the problem you report I'll wait 30 seconds or so and give it a quick click. The will bring up the green screen with the lock button. If the fails to revive I'll hold the power button down for a few seconds. It almost always wakes up after that.

It is apparently a sleep issue. It never happens when I actually power off the unit. It does not seem related to battery charge, though I usually keep my battery fully charged.

Good luck.

UPDATE TO MY A.M. ISSUE

UPDATE Guys, Brought it in and plugged it into the bench supply. Drawing 450 mA. Gave it 5 min then pulled the cord off. It said Battery Low. So that answers the question from this morning. It powers up now. Concerned though... It had been plugged in and charging all night, no reason for it to go dead. I put it in sleep mode the night before. I'll keep an eye on it. Guess it gets a second lease on life, at least with me !! Thanks for everyones input. I'll repost if it decides to play games. And I'll try POI Loader and BaseCamp. They could do a lot of improvements on POI Loader BTW. Thanks Again...

Power problem

I have almost the same problem. It was ok for a few days. Now I connect with the power cord that came with the gps. When I turn the power on the car the gps goes one. I turn the car off the gps turns off right away. I try to press power and does not turn on.

I am going to try some of your solutions to see if they work and power on battery alone.

POI LOader

I have a nuvi 2595lmt and I cannot get the poi loader to work. I have win7 64bit and I always get a error message saying it encountered an unspecified problem. Help

POI Loader

I have window 7/64 bit and I do not have any problem with the program, the only thing I can think of it your download was damage, this is what I suggest to do.

1) select the poi loader again and (RIGHT CLICK with the mouse) select properties./select OPEN FILE LOCATION Like this it give any idea where the program is install and right down the location where the program was install it.

2) Select/computer/controll panel/select Program and features/ click there and see if the proram is listed,if if is there right click and select UNINSTALL.

3)Then find again if the program was complety remove from the location as describe on ( paragraph 1)

4) sometimes window does not delete everything, to be sure that even your registry is clean do this.
Click on Start/on the very buttom on the box that read ( search program and File) type inside the box Poi Loader, and click enter then select search on Computer and anything was left behind before (right click) each one of them and select delete. now any single file that was associate with the poi loader is gone. Download the program again from Garmin ,so now you will have a fresh and clean new POI loader install.

I hope it help..good luck
