From a rental car company...
186 serial number range...
Battery life is 20 or so min I've been told... Has DC adapter and suction mount.. No FM Receiver, but she didn't want that.
Price was reasonable $67.
I got the serial number from fellow, and called Garmin. That has never been registered before..
While I'm waiting for it's arrival, I'm getting things ready to go so when it gets here, I can test it....
Question for you.... at Garmin's site:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/blosp.jsp
I can get the latest/last firmware/software for the 660...
Notes say it want's XP to run... I swear that I used my wife's laptop to upgrade the firmware, and that's W7-64.....
Has anybody upgraded firmware from the stand alone firmware updated using W7-64?
Thanks
Well done
I remember the earlier discussion well. Good for you in finding one at such a good price.
If you use WebUpdater to get the latest firmware (plus voices or whatever else has been updated), I can say it works well with Windows 7 Home Premium (32 and 64-bit). myDashboard should do as well.
The stand-alone exe file that your reference states that it needs is Windows XP or later operating system, so you should be good to go there as well.
But there may be more than just firmware being updated, so my suggestion is to use WebUpdater:

Besides firmware, I expect you'll be offered several English-language TTS voice updates, and possibly more. Coming from a rental company, it's hard to say just how outdated the nuvi's files are.
Do you know what map version is on the device?
He said latest, which, if
He said latest, which, if true, brings up some interesting ideas.... I know the latest maps CAN'T FIT in a 660... So does that mean there is already an SD card in it????? He didn't say so...
Come to think of it... IF it does have latest maps, it should have latest firmware, too (V4.90)......
He said it has red light warnings in it..
I have an un-edited Jack file from our existing 660, if needed...
Once it gets here.... I'll know more...

Splash Screen Shows?
Congrats on finding a 660 with serial # beginning with 186, those units don't have touchscreen issues as do other 660's with different serial numbers.
Since the unit you bought was used by a rental car company you may be disappointed. If I remember correctly the splash screens on those units show the rental car company and you CANNOT change it. I believe it's embedded in special firmware for that company. Even if you download and upgrade firmware to v4.90 it will not rid the splash screen.
Not sure on this feature, but you may not be able to set a HOME location since the button may be grayed out.
When you receive it please let us know if your unit has the Rental Car splash screen and if you were able to change it to behave as a retail 660.

Received it
Yes it does have burned in splash.
It had 4.9 in it, but My Garmin (after successful registration) said a firmware patch was available. Still says 4.9.
Programmed in two locations... Home (Not the Home button, you were right, it's not available) but the locations 'took'.
Windshield mount was brand new.
Ran it for 20 min, and went shopping... OK.
Then had it take us home...
The custom POI's are burned in, too... but our custom POI's loaded fine...
I'll probably have to change the battery... I'm attempting to charge it now.....

Changing Battery
I believe with some research you would be able to remove the rental car splash screen and the burned in POI's also. I think those burned in POI's are rental car return locations.
I myself would not attempt it in fear of bricking the unit.
When you change the battery be very careful and not damage the ribbon cables that attach the LCD panel and touchscreen to the main board, they are very delicate.

After posting
It did not come with AC Charger... I used our existing 660 charger and 2 hours later it said it was fully charged!
I had it run nearly 45 min during which time I manually entered about 15 Destinations from our other 660... and it kept half it's charge in 45 min, so maybe battery just needed a good charge... Time will tell...
I did browse through the directories, and there are no .JPG's anywhere... My guess is that poster who said it might be burned into firmware is correct....
I don't know where to look for the burned in Custom POI's, but it did take ours (in addition--even after I ran software and told it to delete them).
Only thing I miss, is not being able to LOCK the unit with a password... (It boots right up). I actually like that feature.

All three of the features you mention cannot be to be changed. They are hidden and not accesible. If they were availbale, customers renting these GPS's from rental car companies may change the settings. What would happen if a customer put in a password lock and then returned the GPS when returning the car. The GPS would be useless.

Hmm....Used.... Tried that once. Wife gave me that "I'm not worth New?" look. Of course the next time I bought something new I was reminded that I should have bought used like I did for her. That was that. She gets new and life is good.

Moral of the story is, buy new for the wife, and used for yourself, or suffer the consequences.

Thought There Was A Joke
When I saw the title of this thread, I was thinking of the old joke that went; "I got a new car for my wife. I think it was a fair trade."
"I got a used Nuvi 660 for my wife..."
